Why don't links work in signatures?

Is this something that only works for premium members? I think I noticed some people have links in their sigs, but others just have the URL's. I've tried using the URL tag and it doesn't work for me. Am I doing something wrong or is it just disabled?

it is disabled. no live links in sigs are allowed at this time
