Wanted Posts in For Sale Forums
This is becoming an increasingly serious problem over time now. The larger RCU gets the worse this problem is. Many of the offenders are regular members who know the rules but feel that the Wanted Forums get little or no exposure so they intentionally post in the wrong forum in hopes of getting seen asap before it gets moved which sometimes takes a lot of time.
Please consider the following: just zap these posts asap rather than eventually moving them with a forwarding address that just makes matters worse by then giving them 2 posts for all to view. There are too many who violate this rule and know better but scoff at the inconvenience it causes the rest of us. |

Shemp...it's true it can take 24 hours or usually less to move an incorrectly placed wanted post. I guess you are not a proponent either of us combining sale and wanted together as we have "test sampled" in warbirds and jets or is it just the breaking of the rules that is at issue here most for you?

Marc: I would like to think most of us prefer that everybody follow the rules here on RCU but few of us are willing to actually say anything about it for fear of retribution or critcism.
As RCU continues to grow the problem are likely to increase with this growth hence the ability to keep up with and process errant postings will be necessary. I recall one of the big problems with RCO as it slid downhill was the lack of interest amomng the Mods to do anything about the errant postings which gave the members a message that anything goes since nobody cared any longer. I think its a simple assumtion - as the site grows the problems become larger and more emergy must be applied to keep things in check lest they get out of hand and then there goes the neighborhood. BTW - Yes I believe all the For Sale Forums should be kept separate from the Wanted Forums. What does the Vox Populi say about this? |

Shemp,
Everyone is on board with what you are stating above. Both the mods and I believe the users also appreciate the forums being "tidy". As things grow the task becomes more intensive obviously but we will continue to stride towards excellence. I think most people like the sale and wanted seperate...the jet guys did not or at least the majority so we switched that one to test. I personally like them seperate but would like to join them eventually with some creative programming to make it easy to read for all parties involved...I have lots of cool ideas and a few ways to skin this cat but have not made a final decision just yet. |

SO NOW WHY IS SALE AND WTB COMBINED!!!!!
This is ridiculous. I never have kits to sell and don't need to look at wanted. Are you out of database capacity or what! Doesn't this go against what you just said?? OK SO maybe it'll straighten out in a few days, BUT having been in systems work for 30 years and now retired...Don't you know that those same people that posted wanted in for sale will not pay attention to the radio buttons. It's the nature of the beast. I liked it when I went to the for sale and found things for sale. Oh well, your the boss, so enjoy while it lasts. :) |
Just a thought
Currently you display a lot of info that is not needed in the main forum.ie thread starter, # replies, #views, rating, & last post. This info could be viewed inside the thead. The reason I say this is that if you did away with this you could then split the screen and have the For Sale Thread headers on left and WTB on right. This way WTB is viewed more easly.
Also you may consider writing a program that matches For Sale items with WTB. (example)Let's say I have a futaba 4 channel radio for sale your progam could let me know that joeflyer is wating one, and the program could notify joeflyer by email that i have posted for sale. We all fear change...I was not a fan of combining them but many were...I came up with a clever way to satisfy everyone...if somebody is so ignorant of not being able to check off the radio button don't you think they will ALSO be too ignorant to post into a wanted forum too? Trust me it happens as moderators move posts all the time.
With my ingenious system (if I do say so myself) the wanted ads do not get in the way of the for sale ads. You can view all for sale ads and the wanted ads are at the very bottom grouped together and color coded....confusing it is not. As for database size...it makes no difference...a record is a record and the size is a wash...we have plenty of space. This was done to make everyone happy although for a few they will need to see how good it is. Matching is not a smart thing to do as somebody should check the for sale forums before posting their wanted ad...if they post a wanted ad it before checking the for sale ads it only means that there may already be something they wanted up for sale if they simply bothered to look...I can't spoon feed everyone remember. |
