RCU FTP?
 

The moderators will probably move this to the 'Forum Q&A' section, but this might get some response here first. How about RCU having an FTP server for non-picture files? I see many places where guys give their emails out in plain site in order to get a zipped Auto Cad file or the like. Could RCU host a FTP page so they can just be directed to a link to download from? Would the possibility of viri and other malicious software be a problem? Would the file screening process be to time intensive?

The storage space would be far too large for them to take this on. 50,000 plus users even at a 10 meg cap a person, get the picture?

I guess I should explain it better. There would have to be a screening process. Not just access for anybody to put anything up for Chrissakes. I KNOW better than that. There are zipped AutoCad and other files being shared FROM TIME TO TIME, that are requested in the forums. The guy with the requests, submits the file for RCU approval, and they host it on their servers for anyone in the forums to download. This could be limited to files that AREN'T multimedia. Videos would have to be excluded.

My thinking is that there is software that scans websites to accumulate email addresses for spamming. The guys that request these files post their emails in plain site for anyone and this software to see. It would also make it easier for the guy who is giving the file to just post a link to it, instead of emailing it to 15 + people.

10mb cap FOR RCU SUPPORTERS perhaps. People who spent some dough to improve RCU. Maybe this could be an extra marketing ploy to get more people to up their membership status. Super Uber power users.
