Evidently I'm not familiar with this RCU policy, but I just noticed that a URL I posted was removed and replaced with the text Unapproved website removed or similar.
This makes no sense. I was not "name dropping" or trying to scam free advertisement. I'm not affiliated with the website in question. All I was trying to do was answer someone's question. The name of the model company was posted several times throughout the thread. That's just as much "free advertising" as posting the company's URL. If it's against the rules to post a model company's website, then we should not be allowed to post the model company's name, or the names of any of their products, either. If we are not allowed to post one company's name, we should not be allowed to post ANY company's name, website URL, or product names, period. I can't compare how a plane flies to a type of cat because the robo-censor thinks I'm posting nasty stuff, yet I see REAL 4-letter words making it into posts on a regular basis. Now this. It doesn't make any sense. Please, can someone explain? |

Hello mkirsch,
I sent you a PM about this also. You posted a link to another RC Forum. That was the link removed. I removed the link to follow the RCU Policy below. Let me know if this helps. RCU Community Policies POSTING LINKS: The only type of linking (besides porn and spam, of course) that will not be allowed on our site is when members solicit people to leave our site for a competing service. That's just common sense. We won't allow people to use our site to promote a competing service any more than a brick-and-mortar store would allow his competitor to paste flyer's all over his walls. However, people are always welcome to link to any online resource, whether it's on our site or any other site, in order to share useful information with fellow members.. |

I just did a search on all the 4 letter words i know & didn't get one search hit. I think the Filter does a great job. But if you know of some that slipped by, please show us the links.
Thanks |

Just as a suggestion, maybe you should try getting an agreement with the 'other' website that you can post URLs to each other's sites.
In other walks of life in the 'net it works, as both sites benefit, especially if your site is a better one (and we all know RCU is the better one) -David C. |

I missed the thread in question, but if he was posting an answer to a question,
even if that link was on another online RC forum, that seems to be allowed, based on the rule you quoted above. Maybe the rule should be worded differently? The rule states, among other things: However, people are always welcome to link to any online resource, whether it's on our site or any other site, in order to share useful information with fellow members. their "awesome new forum", than anything else. Nothing wrong with that. It does seem to allow for posting useful info in response though. Explicitly. As for the four-letter words... dunno about that. I have seen the word "*****" many times on RCU. Why that makes it, and pu55ycat doesn't, one can only wonder ;) Afterthought... don't think I'm bustin on ya, darenm. I know it's a thankless job. It's also one that makes it hard to please everyone, every time :D Trust me, I know. |

I'll usually let hell or damn slip by if a post isn't littered with them.
What was the URL you were trying to put in? I know we block ebay in the Swapshop, but I'm not aware of any others. |

Over in the EFlight side of the house, allot of members post links to rcgroups.com & ezone.com! When i first came on board MARC said that this wasn't allowed, so i've been removing the links. Please inform me if things have changed.

Well, Daren set me straight I think. I distinctly remember posting a link to mountainmodels.com, but Daren says I linked in the Ezone. Aspartame make Johnny go senile...
You guys have to admit that the electric side of this site is a bit on the lean side when it comes to info. I come here mostly because rcgroups.com's glow side is just as lean. Daren, no offense, but I regularly post references and/or links to the Ezone in the electric forums. This is the first time ever that I've been given the "smack down" for doing it, IIRC. |

Daren,
Hi..my original directions might not have been clear. If a user posts a direct link to a resource on another site (such as ezone, rcgroups, runryder, etc) that is allowed. If a guy says "see this thread on ....." and he links directly to it that is fine. On the other hand a blanket promotion like go check out www.whatever.com for info on that is not permitted if it is a competing board. In other words we encourage the use of direct links to specific threads, articles or resources on any service (even competing forums) as long as they are answers to specific questions. It is the blatant generic plugs that we discourage. Sometimes the plugs might be harmless but more often than not they are just shameless plugs so those are deemed to be unacceptable and thus removed. If the posters above had links to a specific thread, article, review or whatever which was applicable to the thread topic here or question they could have stayed and it is my fault for not being clear enough on this with daren. Hopefully from now on it will be and everyone will understand how this works. |
