Default S-90K -Normal RPM ranges?

Did some testing with my S-90K. Used Omega 15%. and Top-Flite props. Here are my results.

11x7 - 12,740 RPM
13x6 - 10,240 RPM
14x8 - 9,030 RPM

I would have liked to try a 12x7 or 12x8, but did not have one on hand. These numbers seem pretty low to me, or are they acceptable? Engine runs great, transitions well too. Any advice for me?

We like to run the engine so that it's peak RPM when leaned to just rich of peak is 11,000-12,000. The engine runs best when it's run in that RPM range. Much lower, and you're "lugging" the engine, and not getting the best power. You will also get throttle response that 's not as good when you run the engine much below 11,000 RPM.

Bax, thanks for the repsonse. I guess I was thinking that the engine is underperforming, and maybe something is wrong with it, since I would expect quite a bit more RPM than what I am getting. Or am I about par with an older S-90K? For me to get the RPM to the suggested range, I'm guessing the biggest prop I could swing is a 11x8 or 12x7, and that seems pretty small.

You'll also get more RPM with APC or Master Airscrew propellers than with Top Flite. We use APC in our testing. An APC 12 x 7 or 8 prop will turn neara 12,000 RPM. That's a good range.
