ring installation
How do I compress the ring on a gs40 and slide the piston into the sleve? Do I need a ring compression type tool.
Thanks, Oscar |
RE: ring installation
To install the piston into the cylinder liner of the SuperTigre GS-40, you must first install the piston/rod assembly into the case. make sure the rod is positioned so that the small chamfer on the inside of the lower-end bushing faces the crankshaft counterweight. The piston should be oriented so that the ring gap will pass over a web in the liner when it's installed.
You'll likely have to heat the crankcase to slide the liner it. The liner must slide over the piston. There is a bevel on the inside of the liner that will compress the ring when the liner's slid over the piston/ring assembly. When everything's lined up, it slides right on. |
RE: ring installation
Thanks for the info Bax.
I bought a new ring and broke it while trying to install it on the piston ; seems to be very brittle and fragile. How do I get the ring on the piston without breaking it. I thought I was being very gentle. |
RE: ring installation
To install a ring on the piston, you place the ring on the top of the piston. Gently slide one end of the ring at the ring gap down the side of the piston and into the groove. Carefully work your way around the piston, easing the ring down the side of the piston. We use our thumbs to gently work the ring over the top of the piston and into the groove.
