Going from a cx2 to any of the t-rex helicopters is a big leap up as far as skill level because they require a lot more skill and precision flying. A coaxial helicopter like the cx2 is very limited in movement and is a breeze compared to a trex heli which is a collective pitch. The Trex is a full out 3d heli that can fly every trick in the book and it takes longer to pick up but a simulator will definitely help you. I would say make sure you can fly a collective pitch helicopter well before you try the real thing. I went from a cx2 to a trex-450 and then up to a trex 600 but it took awhile before I got comfortable flying my first trex.

Depends. If you are trying to pick it up on your own than yes it is to much. If you have someone teaching / mentoring you than no.

Ya, I had a very helpful guy at a local hobby shop help me setup my t-rex 450 and 600 because I didnt know the first thing about how to program the transmitter to fly it. He told me where I needed to place everything and then I brought it in and he programmed the transmitter and test flew it for the first time. I then took it home in the privacy of my backyard and learned how to fly it on my own. I never crashed it but I took it really slow and didnt try anything funny until I was really comfortable. Of course I had previously been practicing on the simulator and got good at it first before I flew my real t-rex.

It is a huge step up and a very expensive machine to repair if you break it during the learning process.

Can you get yourself a cheap 450 clone, build it ready to fly for under $200. learn to fly on that first before you risk a $600 helicopter..

Just my opinion.
