The bigger the heli the more stable it will be in wind, both are great helis. But I always go with this quote, "Go with what ever your budget allows your to crash"

It would be a huge step to go from the Blade 400 to a TRex 600, and even a bigger step to go to a 700. If your wallet can afford it, I say go ahead. Just make sure you get experienced face-to-face help along the way. A 600 spinning those blades at 2000rpm can be quite deadly if not treated with respect.

RE: what to buy 600 or 700 trex
If money was not that much of an issue (), and I had a dedicated AMA field (experienced fliers to help me out)...then I would go for a 700. I have heard that the 600 is a bit of a weight hog, at least for the electric version. I would also most probably go for a nitro...just b/c the flight times are much better and having flown electrics for some time I have been yearning for that nitro character.
But that's just me.

RE: what to buy 600 or 700 trex
I had bumped up from a 500 to the new 600 ESP kit.
It is amazing!
You will spend a solid $280 for a GOOD pack for the 600... now imagine double that price for one flight with the 700... because that's what it will cost for the 700 size packs
If you have Deep pockets and money isn't an object then go straight to the 700
But like I said the new 600 ESP kit is amazing and I am extremely happy with it

That depends on where you get your batteries for the 600. My first 6s 5000 mAh 25C pack was 300 bucks. XPS has the 30C versions for 150. Those have almost 200 flights on them and are still powerhouse in my roomate's 700. I've since switched out to Turnigy 8s 5000 mAh 40C (two 4 cells in series) and they cost around 140 shipped. I was turned off from getting a 600 for the longest time because of the battery cost. It's come down quite a bit from when I started 4 years ago. Shop around and you'll be amazed with the battery prices of today. Thunder Power's are great, but are no longer the only good option.

I agree, batteries can be had for a lot less these days and they are just as good. I've been using a lot of the Nano-Tech bacteries and they work just fine.

RE: what to buy 600 or 700 trex
That is a heck of a big jump. I chose to go up to a 550. The 600 and 700 are a older design and the 550 is all new although it does use some 600 parts like the swash. No belcranks from servo to swash the servos are direct connect like the 450 and 500. I have a 500 as well as two 450's and the 550 is substantially bigger than the 500. I found a 550e combo kitat Lower RC.com to my door for less than $700.00. Two Turnigy 4500ma 30C batteries from Hobby King for $150.00.

If you flip the landing gear struts around and put the rubber sleeves on the back end of the struts you will find less troible with your tail rotors in the grass. The tail will set higher.

Flip the landing struts... no thanks
I haven't had any issues with the rail blades in the grass as I fly over grass thats very short or flying fields with asphalt

Another option is to add shim washers between the rear (just the rear) skid and the bottom of the frame.Ibuild it upon all my birdsto add rake because Ifly in crappygrass and need to "buck" the tail up for take off and landing. Nothing sucks more than changing tail gears.
Nice 600. Great Heli! Clean build. Is that the new 600 MXmotor? If so, how is it?

Thanks, it is pretty clean looking and I'm enjoying it!
This is the new ESP kit with the Mx motor, so far it doesn't show any signs of high temps and has plenty of power for me with the Thunder Power 45C pack
(NEW PICS ADDED ABOVE OF NEW MOUNT LOCATIONS)

Thank you for the great views of your 600

I am getting great reviews of the new 550
Appreaciate

RE: what to buy 600 or 700 trex
Would you mind passing along who makes that power plug.
It looks like from the nearly vertical mounting of the battery you would not have much choice of battery weight. My 450,500 and 550 batteries lay much flatter and allow some forward and back CG adjustment for different battery weights. Am I missing something there?

RE: what to buy 600 or 700 trex
The 550 from what everyone says is a perfect align bird. I went 600 to get the largest Heli as possible to run on one 6S Pack. Or else I would have gone straight 700e...
The plugs are Deans plugs, I havent ever used anything else. Yes I can turn the Heli on and off with the Main & BEC packs but would only charge the smaller 2s lipo while on the Heli. The main 6s lipo pack is always charged off the Heli.
The battery tray actually has different mount options and tilts to give more forward weight if need.

RE: what to buy 600 or 700 trex
Ivouched to buy the 550 and was faced with a similar decision between the 600 and 550.Iwanted more of a higher power to weight ratio.Idon't regret itand think the 600 is a sweet heli. I know it is an auto machine and can float for minutes to make a soft landing from full auto. Iwould love to switch up and try someone's 600 for my 550 to feel the difference in flight characteristics. Itoo stepped up from a 500ESP and previously a 450, which never collects dust.

Thanks!
Changed a few more items.
Removed the Align strap form the ESC and used 2 thin zipties (better cooling & if it should ever flame up, the melted zipties would allow the ESC to drop from the frame with ease)
Satellite receiver moved to the other side of heli (around the same location) but flipped so the arials are not behind the CF frame.

If you plan on 3D flying, you will need a 10/12 cell setup for the Trex 600E because its a heavy slug with a 6 cell setup.Other than that, its a nice heli.
The Trex 550 isn't much smaller than the Trex 600.It has a awesome power to weight ratio and very good for 3D flying.
The Trex 700 is hands down better than both in every way.
Like B-Hocky said, maybe think about getting a DX7..You can keep your RX,sale the DX6i and use that money to buy the DX7.

RE: what to buy 600 or 700 trex
Contrary to popular belief the 600 is not a whole lot heavier than a 550. A friend just finished a HK 600 with a 5000ma battery and a small separate battery for his UBEC. On a 10 pound digital fish scale it weighted 7 lbs 6 oz. We weighted my 550 with a 4500ma battery and completely stock and it weighted 6 lbs 15 ozs. Less than half a pound difference and he has a bigger battery, a UBEC and battery for the UBEC. I was surprised after all I had read about how heavy the 600 was.
