If the wind gets it it wont be a slow stick for long. Might be a good trainer though. I can see it doing laps of your yard in no time.

Yah, it's no secret I HATE sims and not only taught myself to fly a CP helicopter but I taught myself to break bad habits learned from coaxials and even from flying in "normal mode" of a CP!

I had an abysmal time with the really nice "Clouds Fly" that Rob was soooo very kind to buy me so's I figgered I'd go with something VERY slow to learn proper CG (That was prolly my problem with the Clouds Fly) and learn to fly planks with "baby steps"!

Jeff said that at his "high dollar" flying club that even the guys that fly the BIG Scales "have a slow stick in the back of their trailer". He allows that they are so fun and relaxing to fly that they even put leds on them and fly at night!

I think this will suit me initially and then I will plug in aileron servos and push forward.

I loves me a new project!

All the best!

I think this is a nice first plane.  I would try to limit it to no more than 2MPH winds.  Most of your orientation skills you learned flying choppers (they don't call 'em choppers for nuttin) will transfer very nicely.
My biggest problem (non transfer of skills) is while airplanks require some forward speed to maintain lift, helichoppers do not.
Good luck, and PLEASE keep us informed.  Videos will be greatly appreciated.

Hobbyking have released THIS in the Australian warehouse.
That would cost me about $40 shipped to my door.

I have some servos, and I can use a spare DT750 motor and prop from my quadcopter, and I can also use a spare Turnigy Plush 40A ESC and my 2200mah Lipos. Apparently it would be able to fly really fast with that overpowered setup, but if I crash, hot glue can fix anything, right????

Planks..... How hard can it be?

Still waiting on my order, then I should be able to fly the quadcopter and fix the helis too.

I started on planes and still have a 2 year old brand new one waiting to maiden. One of these days I promise Ill give it a go.

Until then helis keep me busy enough. Took the 450 and the BL out this morning and had mixed results. Video below of the 450.

The BL lasted one flight until I tried to give myself a haircut with it after a loop went wrong. Only damage was a shreaded canopy so looks like another visit to the LHS.

A big sorry to Byran and Hugh who I missed in the shout outs.

More like a flightless bird....

Aw man... this is what I just bought to put my FPV stuff on....what did you do to it?
BTW, this plane fly's great...cause this vidy says so!

Lol, hope so anyway, is good value and cheap to repair.

Oh, on more niggle...you gotta leave your front yard to fly and you CAN'T fly in the clubhouse!

Aw man... this is what I just bought to put my FPV stuff on....what did you do to it?

A combination of not understanding the HUGE significance of CG and stall speeds for planks. Heli's CG is in essence built into its design. Planes on the other hand...that's why I'm starting out with "baby steps" and then move up. The Clouds Fly was a lovely aircraft for someone who knows how to fly! I drilled the poor thing into the ground until the battery just beat the cockpit up and broke it in half. I was so discouraged that I "retired" it!
BTW, this plane fly's great...cause this vidy says so!

He's right. I just needed to understand concepts like stall. My heli's don't stall and my tiny lil mind didn't comprehend that!

Lol, hope so anyway, is good value and cheap to repair.

But I like my front yard! Lucky I am in that I CAN fly at Torchs.org but I actually have access to 20 acres 1.5 miles from me with a single, giant oak in the middle! [8D]

All the best with your FPV project!

Funnily enough I didnt find that guy annoying at all.
I just bought a hot air rework station ( Another toy to play around with) and I went on youtube looking for some tips.
Anyway if you thought the guy on RCModel was annoying check this guy out.

www.youtube.com/watch

BTW that AXN looks like a great plane. Maybe when you get your plank thumbs going you can try to fly one again.

My parcel arrived at my door yesterday!

Since it was raining, I didn't do much flying except for a small hover with the quadcopter.

My MCPX needed a new tail motor, so I ordered a brushed one off HK. It works, but I don't think it is as quick as the original HH motor.

I replaced the mainshaft on the MCPX with the cyclic wobbles, but the wobbles were still there and a pich pump resulted in the helicopter crapping itself and it started to Piro like mad, so I hit the TH switch and all was good.

Should have more time to put the head back together after replacing the main shaft on the 450, and I will need to check a servo too.

Also bought the 32 bit set of various screw drivers from HK for very cheap. They are fantastic as I have a  backup of everything in one box!

Hope all is well, and the rain doesn't bother you much..

Hiya Koz!

It's mostly tongue in cheek re: the video guys!

They are all pretty cool albeit gimmicky in their delivery!

I'm currently using this VERY comprehensive video series and cannot, for the life of me stop staring at this guys hair(met).

Is that a rug or what??

Got all my chores done this AM in time for the copious rains of the afternoon!

The "Gmeister" is visiting for a few weeks so's I entertained her rather than spend much time on the build. I hope to have it done before noon tomorrow and will see about the maiden.

I'm going to take it slow and see if I can't get this CG thang under control before I fly!

All the best!

Looks like you have plenty to do but with the weather as it is here at least you wont miss out on to much flying.

Looks like you have some rain as well. Wait for the Gmeister to have a nap and get building.
Today I needed some solder so while I was in the electronics store I picked up one of these.
Great soldering practise and my friend who rents a room in my house is in for a sleepless night.

Hiya Kidz!

Really nice rainy day as I was able to complete and briefly test the GWS Slow Stick!

JNail turned me on to it and after all is said and done with the "Lemon Rx" with shipping it cost 75 bux!

I repurposed the 1000 batteries that I use on my small airboat but will prolly use the 2200s we use on the 450 (yah, ain't that something)!

We will see how my mad skillz go after the wind settles!

All the best!

Hey rb,  I was wondering where the pics were but I see them up now.  That is one pretty HK 450!

Tinker toys...saw them sitting over on an old play table and thought PERFECT! It does work good

And that's my phone number in case I lose the plane a few miles away.

Cold, wet and windy here too...cheers to us both for a good maiden

Yeppers, for CG I stuck a finger under each wing approx 1/3 from the leading edge and it is the requisite "slightly nose heavy".

I did a "street taxi" with it and it went "up" and then I cut the throttle!

It will be a few days for me for a real maiden I'm afraid.

It's that work "thing" and bizarre hours at that.

I have a detail tomorrow evening but I need to teach a law class at our local university in the AM so's I will split my shift!

Ode to be independently wealthy like Simon!

I suspect it's an evil, evil transition wrought with tears and laughter!

Not tears like when a big honkin' heli bounces off of my truck but you get what I mean![8D]

I had a friend who could make two noises by mouth without being detected:

1) The cricket and

2) A cat meowing

I have seen him drive folks CRAZY with the cat! He literally could throw that cat noise so successfully that the "victim" along with he and I would look around the exterior of more than one persons home for the erroneous cat. MOTHER OF GOD, it was funny!
