Hi,
i want just share with all beginners, which (custom) safe landing kit allowed me to begin practicing hovering with some TREX 450.
Unlike the standard ones that you could find in Internet, this works much much better because of:
- carbon sticks (longer than usual, normally used to build kites);
- aluminium cross-linkages (home made);
- strongly fixed and linked with heli frame (using plastic ties);
- sponge balls at the edges.
This kit saved my TREX hundreds of times, even if it falls down (over grass) from 2 meters with no damages at all, and keeps flying more stable too.

Sorry but I don't recommend any landing gears. They are horrible for a heli, making them more unstable and harder to control. Personally I'd highly recommend the Phoenix 4 simulator. Practice on that 1 hour a day, everyday for 3 months. Then build your heli, set your NM Pitch -3/50/100. If your heli is fbl, and you are still kinda struggling on the landing and take off, make sure you add 40-50% EXPO(depending on your fbl controller) set it to sport mode. The trick in taking off or landing is once the disc is flat pitch up quickly, or land it quickly.
Good luck
