Default Trex 450 XL CCPM

My first heli was a fixed pitch Corona. I just bought a Trex 450XL CCPM. Can I use my micro piezo gyro on it if I do not plan on setting it up for 3D manuevers? I note that many are using the HH gyros like the 240 but I have the idea that these were required for 3D.

Can you use it? Yes.
Will you be as happy with the heli's tail behavior as you would be using a proper head hold gyro? No.

Up to you, but there is a reason that the HH gyros are the most popular, and it is not related to 3D flying. It is simply more stable with a HH gyro like the Futaba gy401/240.

Get the GY401 instead - its only a few bucks more, and its abetter gyro with more features, and allows you to use beter digital servos too.

No point in buying a GY240 for a trex IMHO.

Good timing Butuz, I was about to buy a gy240 on eBay. I'll get a GY401.

By the way do you realise you will not be able to use your 4 channel transmitter that you used on your corona? The TREX needs 6 channel computer transmitter.

I bought a JR XP6102 for the occasion. Servos are HS56.

Finally I received and mounted a GY401 on top of the body, and above the belt pulley. The problem now is that once the hover point is reached it spins rapidly CCW. I believe that I have the rudder turning in the correct direction, and the gyro appears to be countering a turn properly. I am using an HS56HB, mounted on the boom just behind the frame. There remains the possibility that the tail is moving in the wrong direction, but while the crutch is spinning CCW a left turn command does not correct the problem. The other possibility may be that the rotor is spinning too fast for the tail to take control.
I don't have a tach but the RPM seems higher to my ears than the recommended 1950 at hover.

Suggestions?

I'm in the process of building my trex xl ccpm and i just got the head assembly installed into the frame and main gear. When I spin the rotor head there is a clicking noise coming from it seems like where the lower big gear meets the tail drive gear. Has anyone had this problem? It doesn't bind at all it just makes a clicking sound. I don't know if I should proceed untill I remedy this issue.
I would appreciate any help.

thanks

Do you have the one way bearing in backwards? When you turn the main shaft CW it should rotate freely except for drag by the motor. If you find that it rotates freely CCW then reverse the one way bearing.

I can rotate the rotor head CW freely, but it just makes a clicking sound. The bearing was installed in the main gear from the factory and it rotates in the proper directoin so that is not the problem. Thanks for the input.
