Lets See---
mx450 - generic trex, you will crash many many times learning on either, both can do 3d well, and they are around the same size.

Note: I only have a trex so I might be biased!

Same Size, alot of the same parts are interchangeable.

MX450 is more forgiving and a little more stable (stock setup) Best all around.

T-Rex is a better 3D heli. It is a little faster when tossing it around. Best 3D Performer.

Note: The price difference is 120 dollars. (the MX450 and the T-RexSE ) You are going to spend that in a motor and esc for the MX450 (more if you get a nice esc) Where is the logic not to spend the extra 120 and get the T-RexSE will all the bling. You can add the Heavier MX450 flybar paddles to the T-RexSE if you want the head to be a little less responsive, if the heavy 3D is not your thing.

p.s. If you are looking at the MX450 or T-RexSE The T-RexSE is the way to go. You will spend more getting the MX450 up and running. Dont get me wrong the MX is an awsome heli. But for the price....you cant justify it over the T-RexSE. Great Planes should have done a better job on pricing the MX450.

I have both and this is what I think after almost 3.5 months with the mx400pro (long boom added to make it a 450 size) and 2 weeks with the trex450 se v2...

MX400 Pro is more stable in the wind even with the small default blades but the Trex is more responsive with the cyclic for maneuvers. From what I have seen the MX400 does not have as much third party support and is not improved by the manufacturer as much as the trex is. I am glad I got the mx400pro first though because I was just learning to hover over again and it was easier to fly. But truthfully knowing what I know now I would have purchased a 450se v2 from the beginning because I started putting trex parts on the mx400pro to improve some things like the tail pitch slider and the tail hub(mx400 is aluminum, latest trex 450se v2 is steel). If you do searches you will see others doing the same thing. Another minor thing but for some reason bugged me is that it was harder to get to the motor screws on the mx series heli after everything was assembled... but then again you can't see the gear mesh on the trex so maybe they cancel each other out .

Go to the "MX 450 Pro or Trex 450SE" thread. There's a year's worth of discussion.

Can't beat the Trex though.

It seems the TRex 450SE has become the "standard" design for this size of heli and all the manufactures make their parts TRex compatible. This means you can pick and choose between all the diferent upgrade parts regardless of which base heli you buy.

I bought the SE mainly because it came with all the Align upgrades pre-installed, but I now hate the tail rotor system. While nearly all the moving parts on an SE are metal, except the tail pitch lever which is plastic. I managed to break 2 and you can't buy them on their own.

I've now replaced the entire tail unit with the latest Sonix part which is all metal. Also the version I have has no ball joints between lever and blades, it's all bearings and screws making for much less slop.

I'm currently considering a frame upgrade to [link=http://www.blinktrading.co.uk/osc/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=194]this.[/link] Easier access to cyclic servos and they're bolted direct to the mainshaft mounting. 120 degree servo spacing to match the swash plate. Bigger, adjustable battery platform.

Will my heli still be a TRex 450SE? To me it will. Though I guess hybrid would be a better description.

For my first heli I plan on getting the MX450...that way I can choose the motor myself. BTW, has any one had any experience with the Cyclon mini heli punch motor? Just wondering if it's better than the recommended Great Plans Ammo motor. Karyn, where can you find those Sonix parts?

-Thanks

Yeah, I was thinking of getting the SA but I'm getting the mx450 for $269.98 including shipping from Tower and that includes a 25 dollar pitch gauge and a 40 dollar manuf. credit...

So no one has used the Cyclon? What what be a good, powerfull BL that I wouldn't have to worry about upgrading later on?
