Default Thinking about getting a Trex

Just have a few questions:
I have a Futaba T6XAS 6 ch computer radio that i just figured out that it's both a plane and heli radio. But i don't know how many channels are required for a Trex. I heard u need 7 channels but not sure. My transmitter has these Functions:
P-AT Pitch Adjustable Travel Volume
HV-T Hovering Throttle
IDLE Idle-Up function
HOLD Throttle Hold
REVO Revolution mixing
R-OF Rudder Offset
HV-P Hovering Pitch
SWSH Swashplate Type & AFR

I'm still pretty new to helis and don't really have a clue what they are but i'm very interested to learn. I have a Blade CP and have done pretty much everything it can handle such as rolling and looping (basic aerobatic flight) nose in.....etc

I've done research and heard that i need either 3 or 4 HS 65's???? or 56's? dont know
And i haerd that the Futaba GY401 Gyro is the one to get. Is the motor that comes with most of the Trex combos a good one? i think it's the Align 430???
Also i don't know whether to get just a :
450XL HDE?
or a
450XL CDE?
or the
450XL SA from Horizon Hobby?
or just save up my money and get a
450XL SE? (i'm a kid and it will take forever to afford one of these)

About how much money am i gonna be spending here?

By the time your done getting everything your going to need, you probably won't have much left out of $1000.00 bucks (if any) if you buy good quality stuff.

Heli/motor/ESC

Radio/3 servos

Gyro/servo

Lithium Battery (should have two)

Battery charger (Lithium)

Pitch Gauge

lets see....

you need 5 channels... 6 is better (especially if using the 401..... the 6th channel is remote gain)
3 hs-65's and an HS-81 for the tail would be nice (the Futaba 9650 is better, but not needed)

the SE is the only version that comes with a motor.
all the others fly just fine, but the SE just is a bit more crisp...

We sell the SA as a package with everything needed to fly at the store I work at for $749.....
But remember... you WILL need parts... that is the nature of the beast for Heli's..
so yes, around $1000 budget is fair for a little while
and if you go with the SE, you can easily go over $1000

Just to clarify a point.

6 channles is required if using a 401, you dont have a choice not to use the remote gain.

chris, nice to see another kid flying helithere's not alot... i'm also a kid (just turned 15 anyways). and am too saving up for a trex SE, my lhs said they would do it for 900CAD without tx (i have a 7c already). get quality stuff, i'm planning to get 3xHS65 MG, 401/s9650, tp batt (one only[]) and a align charger.
i too am flying the blade. got it in july. but i plan on learning inverted hover with the blade before tryign out with the rex if i do get one. i've made a inverted training rig... hopefully it'll work. i can do loops and stationary rolls right now.

you won't have much left with 1000 after geting an xl w/ full high end stuff if you don't have a tx.

I agree, the 401 will NOT go into AVCS mode without using the gain on the transmitter. Also, it is the 5th channel, not the sixth. The sixth is usually 'pitch'. Also, there are several things you have to do when setting up a radio so I'd recommend watching some tutorial videos to get this right the first time, especially if you're bying a CCPM machine. You have to get your throttle and pitch curves set up correctly and you need to eliminate interactions.

how do you eliminate interactions? it thought 120 swash will always have interactions, that's why curtis youngblood came up with a 140 swash in the vibe.

not true.
the T-rex S CF package deal is $290 and includes kit, motor, and ESC (micro antenna free with www.techmodelproducts.com

i have everything figured up for my T-rex SCF electronics and got this:
3-HS-65MG's--35.99 a piece
1-HS-81MG--21.99
1-GY410 gyro--139.99
1-R146iP--79.99

all coming to $349.94, but if a 20 or 30 dollar off deal comes up, which im sure it will with christmas coming, you can get that for $330 or better $320.
then 20 bucks for a UBEC.

so, for all of this together without a Tower Hobbies $20 or $30 off deal, it comes to $660
$20 off tower hobbies-$640
$30 off tower hobbies-$630
then, of course add in your battery cost. personally, i will get a Maxamps 2100HV pack for $47+shipping, and i still dont understand why some of you guys waste money on TP....?

plus, seems to be the only difference between the S CF, and SE is the head and tail rotor assembly, so im counting on my future crashes as opporitunities to replace with aluminum

If you do end up getting an SE, check out this guy's prices, all his stuff is below retail and I just bought an SE combo with GY401, 9650, and three HB65's from him for $589 shipped and got it fast. That would have cost me $800 from my LHS after taxes.

He has SE's for $400 shipped. I don't think anyone else sells a brand new SE for $400 shipped with motor and ESC.

Take a look at the JR G500t Gyro about $10.00 more than the Futaba 401 but well worth it.

Plus it looks Nicer

Also look at the JR 3400G Servo for the tail.

I have:

$480.00 T-Rex 450 SE, Stock 35A ESC, Stock 430L Motor
$150.00 JR G500T
$ 75.00 JR 3400G
$105.00 Three Hitec 65MG (may switch to JR DS385 servos in the future)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$810.00 Total

Just add your Radio and a Battery and you got it.
