Default GY240 Gyro in a Trex 450 SE

Hi all. I'm putting together my first Trex and I'd like to use one of my GY240 gyros from one of my old Hornet micros rather than buying a new 401, which is what I have always used in my nitro heli. I'm returning to the hobby after a four year hiatus, and back in the day, the 240 performed very well in my Hornets, but all I really did with them was buzz around. All my inverted and auto work has been with my 50 size nitro heli (a Hirobo Sceadu). I don't really want to use the Hornets any more because it's pretty obvious that they don't compare with the Trex in terms of precision and flyability, and they seem to have largely dissapeared from the market since the Trex was introduced. Can't even find parts for them any more, much less the after market hop up stuff that I was using before my break. So it would be great if I can pull a 240 out of my now obsolete Hornets rather than buying a new 401.

I'm sure the 401 would be a superior performer, but I'm wondering if any of you have experience with the 240 in a Trex. I'm an intermediate pilot, and the main reason I'm putting together a Trex is to increase my stick time so I can start working on 3D. At this point, I'm just getting the hang of inverted hovers and autos. Do you think the 240 is up to the task of 3d work, or should I bag it and just get the 401? Thanks.

the 240 are good gyros. you should be good to go. it wont hold like the 401 in hard 3d but it will hold decent during 3d manuevers.

It will work, biggest thing is the only means to adjust total gyro throw is by how far out on the servo arm the linkage is. Get a blank wheel, do a little testing, and drill a hole such that you get the most total throw possible w/o binding.

I used the GY240 and a 9650 on my T-Rex 450 SEV2 for awhile. The tail held up pretty good doing funnels, flips and loops, and fast backwards flight. Then I pulled the GY401 and 9257 off my Belt CP and I like that gyro/servo combo better.

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated. I'll start with the GY240 for now. If and when I can out fly the 240, I'll upgrade to the 401.

The MS Compsit site says they do.

One of these days I might get them back in the air.
