Default What budget ESC for 450SE V2 & Scorpion 2221-6?

Hi!

What ESC with a 5V BEC would you suggest for the above mentioned bird with a killer motor? I read people use the stock Align 35A ESC with Scorp. 2221, but the motor can draw 55A, and the ESC should not be able to cope? I was looking at the great Turnigy ESC's, killer deals. They have the 40A version which I am affraid is not powerful enough, and a 60A version (only 45USD), but that one is 80mm long and double the 40A weight!!! I am affraid it is to long to fit into my heli.

Are there some other good ESC's with a comparable price to use with this setup? Thank you for helping a total newbie. This is my first post, so go easy on me.

Greetings from Croatia!

Domi

P.S. I should probably sell the Scorpion motor and buy a less powerful motor and get much longer flight times, as this is my first CP heli.

I'm not familiar with the items you mention but will give you my opinion on equipment. Whatever you wish to use just be sure it will do what you want it to. Price often unfortunetly can result in unforeseen problems that cost you everything.

I'm running a Scorpion Commander 45amp V2 with my 2221-8 motor with no problems. I think others are using the 60amp with the 2221-6. I paid less than $60 for the 45amp ESC. A 60amp will run you around $80. You don't want to go too cheap on your ESC- it will cost you a lot more in the long run. You can keep that motor but use an 11 tooth pinion and run your throttle curve no higher than 85% for longer flight times untill you're ready for more advanced flight.

i run the scorpion 55a esc with my scorpy 6. runs nice and smooth. crazy power. you better have a lipo that can deliver the amps the scorpy 6 needs. 25c or above rated lipos. i'm running the kong power 3s 2200mah 26c lipos and it is cool to the touch after a 5 minute flight.
