Swashplate movement

My swahsplate is very hard to move around. With no linkages connected how easy should the swashplate move around?

To me it seems there may be to much resistance and when the linkages are connected, I am sure that is my binding problem.

And any suggestions on how to fix?

Try using either some light machine oil, silicone lubricant, or white lithium grease on the ball. it might just need a little lubrication to free it up.

If that doesn't help, you pretty much just need a new one. :-)

Yea, I have again disasebmled the upper head and sprayed it down with WD40 and it moves good now, still just a little stiff. That was a lot of buildup for just a few test hovers.

O well will see if that solves the problem if not.. It's off tomorrow for another one.

Thanks

Only used it to clean it. I never use WD40 as lube. Will clean and then apply another lubricant..

Morning,

I was always under the impression that WD40 or Q20 were fantastic lubricants. I use it to clean componants and so on, even my bicycle componants and things always come out wonderfully. What the - with the WD40?

Thx n

Regards,
Solo.

No never WD40. It's primary use is to free up rusted parts. As HondaJunkie said, light machine oil. I prefer the oil used for lubing air tools like nailers and such. Guaranteed to be safe for our heli.

Same here I have always only used WD40 to clean or free stuff. I prefer to use Dupont for oil.

But that is just my preference.

However, I am heading to the hobby shop and see if I can find out what is going on with this swashplate. Cleaned and restored, so I may be back to my other post where I may have a stripped servo. But I still think it's binding in the swashplate.

Tunrs out it was a lot of things wrong.

I took it down to the LHS and their happended to be one the local experts with Trex's there and looked at mine. Turns out one the pre-built bars was not turning freely. And the linkages going from my servo to the swashplate were causing the inadvetnet non-centering.

Moved the linkages to move veritval, best I could with my servos being mounted outside and oiled the heck out of the swashplate. It now moves freely.

Already hovered one battery out and after mowing the yard going to try and hover two more before I finish for the day.

Sometimes you get to a point where someone who has worked with them longer can only tell you what the problem is:)

Glad he happened to be there.
