Excellent Tutorial for New Heli Setups

Just got through setting my pitch and throttle curves for a JR8103 Transmiiter for a 450SA. Have been reading a ton and looking through the owners manual as well. Was still a bit confused.

Then I downloaded a Video produced by FINLESS (a poular trex pilot/setup guru ).

The video was called Pitch and Throttle Curves 101 and I highly recommend it to any newbies out there. He does an excellent job of explaining the HOW and WHY we need to set throttle and pitch curves. Watched the video only once and then it was a breeze dialing in my curves to allow me to have a beginners set-up for a docile beginners heli.

Even learned about setting up curves for 3D flight including invertered use of collective pitch.

He has an entire series of videos at the Helifreak website: http://helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=12455

If your new at this heli stuff and have nobody else around to help, this guys videos will get you off to a good start.

Good luck, Robo

Totally agree with you.

It’s great to see RC enthusiasts who are willing to spend their time making videos such as these for FREE.

I have downloaded them all.

After very precisely setting up my Trex450. Test flew it only to find the tail was almost uncontrollable.

Viewed 'Finless' video on the GY401 and Futaba 7CHP (my radio) and sorted the problem out immediately.
Would have been lost without the video. Doubt the manual would have been able to explain it very well.

Thanks very much 'Finless'. Your videos are very informative. Please keep them coming.

I'm having trouble viewing the videos. It says: "unauthorized user."

Can you give me a more direct link to the videos or a different website I can view them on?

Try going to the Helifreak (one word, no hyphens or spaces) website and look for the Finless Tech ??? Tips or something like that...

I went there yesterday morning and downloaded a great Tutorial on the Futaba 401 gyro setup.

Wish me luck as today I try to fly my Trex 450SA for its maiden voyage.

Got the heli put together quick, but got seriously bogged down in the radio programming business.

A pilot buddy of mine said take it to "Bill", he'll program your radio for you, but I'd be trapped having to always find Bill to change a single parameter on the radio. Yeah, I learned the hard way but I DID learn.

Also look at Runryder Website for a Guy named "DKSHEMA" He's excellent at explaining flight set-ups in plain english.

What you flying now J-cube?

I still have a Falcon 40 thats still fun to fly. Don't plan on retiring it anytime soon.

Good luck with your T-Rex. :)

I'm still flying my Falcon 40 and Lama V3.

So today I flew my 3rd flight. My 1st real test with forward flight. Theres a cold front headed here and the wind was gusty around 10-15 mph all day so I decided to see how the Trex handles a stiff breeze. It was nothing. I had a blast and power to spare. Landings were done tail in (chicken!!) facing the wind with no issues whatsover. My only real problem was I lefy the painted canopy at work and had a bit of trouble with orientation. The heli moves out fast.

Probably going to sell my inventory of Falcons...
