450 se's stable in wind?
 

Just curious how stable these helis are in wind? How much wind can they be flown in. They still seem quite small, are they classified as micros?

I think that their classification is a "mini", not a "micro". I have never personally flew in much wind at all, but on the RF G3.5 simulator, I can hadle it up to 15 MPH, which is wherer you're fighting the wind more than fliying. I'm sure that other, moer experienced people will respond as well.

If you are new to Helis, winds over 10 mph will be a bit much for you. I don't fly my Rex in winds over 10 mph and I'm a pretty seasoned pilot. I normally fly my Raptor 30 since it's oboviously heavier and that's still a challenge.

Anything over 10 or so and it becomes work instead of fun. Can they? Yes, but they are a handful when it gets up over 10 or 12

I agree with the others. The last time I flew my 450-class Diablo, the wind was over 10 mph and gusty; I had a hard time keeping it under control, resulting in an early crash. A constant wind is not as bad as a variable wind.

Going great! I just wish I had better weather, Right now, I am limited to low hovering in my garage just to satsfy my TREX jones.:) To compensate, I have been flying the hell out of my CX2's!

Santas being good to me this year! I am getting a silver V2 kit with a CC35 A ESC and a MedUSA 028-032-3400 motor. I am also going to run it with either a 13T or 15T pinion. She should be a screamer next to my stock Heli. This new one I am going to get a nice, air-brushed canopy. For now, I will just have the fun of building it! :D

the t-rex is very stable, I have hovered it with 25kms/hr wind.... hard to control though..... to fly ff, nose in and 8's I fly maximum with 15kms/hr, you just have to be careful because flying FF with wind makes the heli go up or down suddently sometimes, watch out...... but it's possible and once you get used, when you fly with 5-10kms/hr wind will make it a joke.

Did you post the correct video? There doesn't appear to be any wind at all by looking at the leaves, tree branches, etc. 15-20 should show quite a bit of movement. Or perhaps its just hard to tell in the video. The T-Rex looks pretty stable if the wind is correct. BTW, the fuse looks great on it.

Thanks Stephen, if you listen closely you can actually hear the gusts on the microphone. My garden is small and partially protected by the fence round it.

Considering I've only been flying heli's since August, if I've got the b***s to go fly in wind it says a lot for the heli!

I fly the 450 between 5-7 mph in which more than that as others say its work instead of having fun. I prefer a little wind than a calm day...

Nice video...However, I got distracted by your other You-Tube vids and had to comment on how nice your Trex 600 looks with the Augusta fuselage...Wow...Very nice heli. Very realistic in the details.

Yes, I love the 109A, very stable in flight compared to a 450. matador, I got my shell from rchover.com US$86.
I have just ordered an MD500 Tow Defender fuse for another 600E, can't wait for Xmas. I can't believe how addictive these things are, costing me a fortune! Gary.

Mabe its me but I like the challenge of flying in the wind, My Trex and Park flyers..It is harder but It helped me in reacting to the sudden drops and climbs better. So when I flew in wind of 5mph or less, I could really go ape sh&t doing 3d

madmodelman...nice fuse. With the fuse your Rex is heavier thus more stable in the wind.

Good point that.
On very 1st flight I struggled a bit, (it was calm) it was less stable than when undressed. I put that down to CG, she was tail heavy, I had to modify the battery plate as my batts are fairly heavy to move them forward.
In fact I am glad they are heavy as obviously better to use batt weight than ballast!
I have yet to try her in calm conditions, the weather over here is awfull at the moment + dark evenings! Gary.

Hard to notice the wind but nice fuse and good hovering.
