Consistent Glitch
 

I have been flying my T-REX for a while now....errrr about a month. Everything seems to be working fine except for the occasional and consistent glitch. 60% of the time when I do a fly by over my head or at least when the heli is within 30 feet from me (further away and the glitch seems to diminish) with it's belly towards me I get a motor glitch. For a split second my throttle cuts out. It never affects the rudder or swash, just the throttle. So far it's never really jeopardized my heli but I don't want to take it for granted. I have done a good job keeping motor wires away from the receiver. No wires are rubbing on the frame. There are several layers of black tape insulating any wires that cross over a frame member.

I have a JR XP6102 TX and a JR receiver to go with it. I think it might have something to do with this combo as the glitch can happen and any throttle setting and again, it's pretty much only when the heli is above me or if I'm flying a big arc then it happenes when the belly of the heli is towards me.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If you 100% sure you still have control and it's just the motor cutting out it it could be your speed control .Here's some things that can cause the esc to draw to many amps and cut out.
1. Make sure the motor is not meshed to tight with the main gear.
2. Make sure the belt is not to tight
3. Check for any binding in the servos and linkages.

I suspect the problem may be your bec is overloading but you lose all function for a split second if that is the case. What brand (model) esc are you using? Is the bec built into the esc or is it separate.?

I'm using the Align 35A ESC model number RCE-BL35G. I guess I'm not 100% sure it's only the throttle but the heli never tries to spin or angle in any direction during the glitch. It just acts as if someone flicks an on/off switch for a split second. But maybe you are correct that everything is cutting out for a split second. I checked and my belt is not too tight, no servo binding, and the pinion is meshed ok. It's just so weird that the glitch happens more when the heli is right over me. It really never happens otherwise. So I'm guessing that maybe it's just some anomaly with the TX and RX when the heli is right over head.

I looked up the tx you are using and it is pcm capable. Are you using a pcm reciver? Im guessing your reciver is FM?

Do you have a ferrite ring on the servo cable coming from the ESC? The Align 35 ESC is notorious for glitching the rx without one installed.

I was reading another post about bad wires to the motor that was causing it to cut out intermitantly (horrible speeling today....). Have you crashed it recently? Wiggle the motor and esc wires around a little while at a low idle and see if that doesn't do it. It may not be the case, but wouldn't hurt to rule it out as a possibility.

I have never used a ferrite ring and I've never had a glitch. Perhaps its due to using PCM. Another consideration.. if your antenna is pointing straight at the receiver in a particular orientation then its possible you are in the "null" window of RF transmission. I'm not saying that's the case but getting farther away might help that window.. Just a thought.

BobH I think you are on to something. What can one do about this "null" area. You are correct, when the heli is farther away yet in the same "glitching" orentation it will do it less.

Maybe a ferrite ring would help too.

O yeah I forgot to mention that a low (2 inches to 2 feet) hover over cement with the heli about 3 feet from my feet also is an area / time when it glitches some.

I didn't see you answer if you are using straight FM(PPM) or PCM....I had this problem until I swapped my receiver out for a PCM one and it hasn't glitched since.

I haven't had a glitch since I changed to pcm reciver. I would add that my glitching went away totally when I added a ferrit ring but I bought a pcm reciver just to make sure.
I been debating getting a 2.4gighz but having no problems I probably won't till the Futaba 7c I'm using now is wore out.
