Help! Problems with T-Rex 450SA
 

Hey guys,

The newbie again. I have just finished assembling a brand new T-Rex 450SA. It is a very beautiful machine. However, even though I believe I followed all of the instructions to the letter I am having massive problems trying to set up the controls and servos on it. I have made sure I plugged all the servos into the correct slots on the receiver, made sure the programing was right on my radio, etc. Luckily for me one of the premier RC helicopter mail order houses in the U.S.A. is located right here in Corpus Christi, Tx where I live. Heliproz South is staffed by Mr. Ron Lund and he has been doing this hobby for years.

Anyway, when I give the transmitter up throttle the swash plate tilts forward! Not correct, obviously. When I give up elevator the swash plate raises and lowers, etc. ***?

The guys at Heliproz South fly helicopters every Saturday and Sunday mornings at one of their houses out in the country so there is plently of room to make mistakes without damaging things.

Here is my current equipment:

1. Radio - Spectrum 6xDi from a Blade400 I bought recently.

2. Receiver - Spectrum A6200 with dual receivers.

3. T-Rex450SA ARF helicopter

4. 3 Hitec HS-65MG for swash plate control.

5. Futaba GY401 gyro

6. Futaba tail servo - S3154 digital

7. FlightPower 2170 3s battery.

Any help you can give this newbie would certainly be appreciated.

Double check that you have the correct servos plugged into the correct channel on the transmitter. It definitley does not sound right. The rear servo should plug into elevator and the other two really don't matter (you can just reverse the servo if necessary).

Tell us which servos are plugged into which channel on the receiver.

Disconnect the motor, or power the reciever from a 4 cell battery.

Move the throttle stick up, all three servos should move in unison to move the swashplate up or down. Usually one servo will be doing its own thing, find the servo that isn't cooperating and reverse that channel (the channel that servo is plugged into)

Now all three servos should be moving the swashplate up and down when you move the throttle stick. If the swash plate moves up as you advance the throttle skip to the next step. If its moving down, then goto the swashplate menu and reverse the function by changing the changing the percentage from positive to negative, I think the default on the DX radios is 50 or 60 percent, just change it to -50 or -60, whatever it was.

Now move the elevator stick, if the swash tilts forward with forward stick, check the aileron, if not, reverse it in the swash menu. Same with the aileron.

When you get everything moving the right direction use the swash menu to set your throws. In other words if you have +-9 and you want +- 11 degrees pitch, adjust the pitch percentage away from 0 a few points until you get the total throw you want. Same with the aileron and elevator

I configured my DX7 and Trex 450 SE V2 using Finless videos. Absolutely no problems in my first hover.

Appreciate all of your input for me. Those videos from Finless were great! Wish I had watched them before I started building the T-REX. By the way, I went to the guys house on Saturday and sure enough they were able to correct the problem in just minutes. It was too windy to fly here on Saturday but the bird took it's maiden flight this morning. It flew terrific except something on the tail is sticking. I certainly wished I had bought the T-Rex 450 SE instead of the SA model. There is ALOT of plastic on the SA that is metal on the SE. Somthing on the tail slide bushing is hanging up and not being smooth.

Ron's advice as of this morning is to replace the plastic tail material with the nice alloy one from Align. More money. Horizon sells you the SA copter for only $200.00 but you then have to spend a TON more money modifying it so it flys correctly. The SE model is about $380.00 but needs little if no modifying.

Lesson to to be learned for the future.

Actually they're $179 now with motor and esc.

As far as needing upgrades straight away....?

This is box-stock with a Telebee, Align servos, JR S185 (since then I got an HS81) on the tail, and King 2 paddles (to tame it down - more weight). The only thing out of the box that needed replacing was the one-way bearing, and this is before I replaced that.

If anything keep that heli to bash on then get you a t-rex 450 se v2. A very smooth and steady machine. It is a lot bet and cheaper to just buy another kit trust me.
