RE: <span class=
Those are very impressive numbers, what about long term effects from runing such high nitro content? Anybody out there have any longeevity data on 30%?

Long term effects, other than being broke? These things appear to GUZZLE fuel, 30% @ 18.95 per gallon and 5-6 flights per gallon that is
Some substantial fuel cost.

Roger that Crash King, these things do guzzle the fuel. I am amazed that my Moki 2.1 yields much better fuel economy than my 1.80 Saito and thats on 5% nitro. No comparison on power or vibration/noise levels as well. The only advantages to the Saito are light weight and that awesome fourstroke bark IMHO.

RE: Saito 180 w/ APC Prop
I do not understand why in the US people are using the high nitro percentages.
I am flying saitos now for 4 years with 5% and 18% synthetic oil.
Power better then OS.
I tried 15% coolpower but did not notice the difference.
If more power is required: lighthen your plane, get a stonger engine.....
Why stress the engine? and your wallet,
unless you are a competition flyer.
just my 2 european euro cents.

RE: Saito 180 w/ APC Prop
For some reason, I have noticed that Saitos have 2 power ranges:
5% nitro ~ 15% nitro
20% nitro ~ 30% nitro
Once you go to 20%, the rpm jumps by like 300~500, but not much more beyond 20% nitro. The 30% nitro does seem to have better response for heavy props, and smoother idle.

Seanychen, did not know that Saito made a 10. If so that is the strongest 10 I have ever seen. My 180 will not even turn an APC 17x6 prop that fast!

Wow guys those are expensive spinner. I do not have the budget to play the True Turn game of expensive spinners. I make my own spinner nuts and use them. I just fly sport planes so I don't mind not having a smooth nose on the plane. A spinner nut is good enough for me. I have included a photo of some
First photo my Saito with a spinner nut.
Second photo is a Ryobi with a spinner nut.
Third & Fourth photos are a Ryobi spinner nut for a friend of mine.
Good fllying

RE: Saito 180 w/ APC Prop
i just tacked my 180 with 17/6 apc and got 10,000 with 15%.
previously was only able to get 9700 with the exact same prop!! only difference is that it is now mounted on a glass mount that allows very little flexing when compared to the previous dave brown glass mount [X(]
has anyone had a similar experience, ie.....more rpm with a stiffer mount...i believe I have experienced this phenomenon before with other engines!!

RE: Saito 180 w/ APC Prop
My 180 rpm readings:
17x8 apc: 9000(still a bit rich)
fuel: wildcat 20/20 ys.
temp: 30 degrees far.
humidity: very low
My high speed needle is 4 1/2 turns out. The cold dry air up here seems to require
a rich setting for a good consistant high speed run without running too hot.

RE: Saito 180 w/ APC Prop
Something mujst be wrong with my 180, on an APC 17x6 I am still getting a maximum of about 9600 -9700 rpm leaned all the way out. Thsi is on Powermaster 15% with 18% castor/synthetic blend. I do have the Dave Brown FlexMount and that may be part of the problem. This thing vibrates a lot and sucks fuel at an unbelievable rate. Sure do love the sound though!

RE: Saito 180 w/ APC Prop
The $ factor made me go back to 20/20 fuel. I now use both, only going to 30% when I really need the power.
Oh, I just saw my Saito 10's awesome power That's quite a 10 huh?
