Default YS 63 FZ RPM

I was tuning my YS 63 last night with a 13-4W APC and was gettting about 10,300 consistently. At this setting there was good smoke, transition, and idle. A tachometer is a must when tuning this engine, as small amounts of adjusting can make a big change in performance.

Does anyone else have tach readings on their YS 63 FZ?

That's an H9 1/7th scale Japanese pilot from Horizon. I painted the pilot myself.

Richard,

I have another question. What size spinner are you using and who makes it? Looks pretty scale.

I'm getting 11,900rpm with a 13-4w apc on byrons 30% w/24% oil. Peak is right around 12,200. That is with only 1 gallon of fuel thru it so far. I have this engine on a OMP katana and has foamy like power. it is unbelievable. I'm trying to locate some ys20/20 fuel in my area but i've had no luck. What nitro content are you running? That sounds like your not using very much nitro.

I'm using wildcat 20/20, type F plug, APC 13-4W..........about 700ft above sea level. I'm going to test some tonight witht a new glow plug. Mine is not the new S engine. But it was very unlimitied when new. It may need a new ring.

Sorry to bother you again Richard,

BUt.......

Your canopy is painted very straight. How did you do it? Did you paint the inside of the canopy like the instructions say?

Thanks again,

Terry

That's a little high. Keep it under 12,000 if you want it to last a while.

I've been getting 10,300 on a 14x4w with 20/20 fuel. I know i should be using 13x4w but thats on the way. I did find the spool up very slow and moved to a 12x6 and got 12,000.

I've been having problems getting my ys63 to idle at 2,000 rpm consitantly, get as low as 2300 but any lower and it cuts. I know it's my idle setting but which way should I go, leaner, richer, also which way on the screw for each one, anti or clock?

Try going leaner on the low end. Lean is anti-clockwise, which is stated in the manual under "LOW SPEED ADJUSTMENT". Many people don't bother to read the manual and try to lean out the low end by turning the screw clockwise, which is wrong. On the high end, lean is clockwise as usual. Please read the manual if you haven't done so.

I know it's not a .63, but my used YS .53 gets 11,338 RPM's on a 13 x 4 prop running 30 % heli fuel. This think yanks my Accel Katana all over the place, hovers at 1/4 throttle !

I tached mine today with powermaster 20/20, apc 13x4w and was getting around 10.3k on mine as well, sounds like we are all in the ballpark.

That sounds very weak for a YS .63. I have a Magnum .61 FS that will turn the apc 13x4W 9800-10000 on 15% CoolPower and the APC 13x4 Sport over 10500. Based on what I have seen a YS .63 on 20% should turn a 13x4W at least 11500 and more like 12K.

Well, Dave, I tried the 14x4 Zinger, with the leading edges of the tips rounded like APC style. Didn't help. Rpm dropped to 8900, and got lower and lower as the engine got hot lugging that thing. Plane flew terribly, as prop didn't unload much in the air. I put the APC 13x6 back on, 10,800rpm, and it was happier. No way I am going to try that huge 14x4W APC. Will go back to try the 13x4 and be careful not to overspeed. I only use full throttle in vertical, if ever.

Hey,

I'm running the ys .63FZS and ran it on the 13x6 prop and the 13x4 wide blade...

I cant tell you specific rpm's but i can tell you that it did fly the 13x6 well but the 13x4w is unbelievable with any 3D flying.

My 6 pound (roughly) Katana by CMPRO will hang on 2/3 throttle and pull a vertical climb up and outa there no problem at all!

GO THE YS ENGINE!!!

Oh im running on ys 20/20 fuel as well.

Please look at [link=http://web.archive.org/web/20020803180433/http://www.nwmas.co.uk/engine_test_ys53.htm]this archived web page[/link]...

It is a review done in the UK for the YS.53FZ of days gone by...

The numbers there are superior to most .61 two-stroke engines.
They seem to be exaggerated. Except for Abacro's number, no one here seems to be even close.

The numbers I see where I fly (I don't personally own a YS four-stroke), don't agree with that .53FZ review, or with Abacro either.

I just carefully masked and painted the inside of the canopy. Masking the inside of the canopy will be harder than masking the outside.
