I took some tach readings today of my new Tower Hobbies .61. It has just been broken in with about 25 to 30 minutes of total running time, so far. I've only tached three props so far, and will do more as I get more props (I have an APC 11x10 in the mail, and will also test the MA 11x7.5).

One: I used an Ace Tachmaster II. I calibrated it this morning (3600 pointed at a fluorescent light). This is an analogue tach marked in 500rpm increments. This is why some figures have a "+" next to them. If the needle was between two marks I recorded it as being plus the lower mark. So, I could feasibly add about 250 to the readings with pluses.

Two: I am conservative in my peak needle settings. I lean the engine until pinching the fuel line does not alter rpms. If it sags when I pinch it, I richen a bit.

Three: I used fresh Power Master 10% Nitro/18% oil fuel.

Four: it was about 60 degrees, sunny with low humidity on the patio where I tested.

Here it is:

APC 11x8 - 12,750

Zinger 11x9 - 10,500 dead on

APC 12x6 - 11,750

The engine really sounded strong with the APC 11x8. It also throttled extremely well; the smoothest of the three.

I'll add more data as I get more props.

I tested the APC 11x10 today on Power Master 10% fuel. 53 degrees; 34% humidity:

11,250 with my Ace Tachmaster II. (needle was between the 11,000 and 11,500 markings)

Using the same fuel as above with about the same conditions I ran an APC 11x11 Pattern prop today.

A solid 10,250.

Not too shabby.

Ok. Don't laugh. An explanation is in order. The plane for this engine is not finished yet, and I don't have another sixty-size model to mount it in. In the meantime, I wanted to take some thrust readings with a digital fish scale for my own entertainment. I fully understand that this type of thrust measurement can't replace actual flight testing, so take the measurements for what they're worth. I can adjust the weight of the sled to be the same as the weight of a particular plane; in this case about 7.5lbs. So, here's the "Thrust Buggy." I'll post thrust readings with various props a I test them.

Another prop tested, one that was suggested by others on the Glow forum:

Same fuel as above.

MA black 11x7.5 = 13,500

This test was not peaked out all the way, as I don't like to push my engines to their limits.
