Hi,
Results for Laser 150 (found the pic on eBay). I bought this engine in haste, but am now contemplating putting it into an Ultra-RC Giles 202. The engine only weighs 885grams including silencer, so the plane should come in under 10lbs AUW.
Anyway, 12 percent Nitro, and only one tank of fuel through it...
16x8 Graupner 8200rpm
18x6 Meijzlik 7900rpm
18x8 Meijzlik 6900rpm.
Mike.

Have this engine in an X-Tech Giles 202 76.8" (bought from Probuild in the UK). The plane weighs a fraction over 10lb 1oz, and this engine will hover fine, and pull out of a hover and accelerate ( albeit slowly) vertically. Just tried 20% Nitro, and it gives 8160rpm continuous with Mejzlik 18x6 carbon prop. (about 7860 continuous, but 7900 peak with 12%). Spoke to Neil Tidey of Laser engines, and he said that using more than 12% was fine for the engine, but would only yield small gains. I'm pretty impressed with the gains I have with 20%. Will try 30% to see if perhaps I can gain another couple of hundred rpms!?
Also, Laser have just started making their own carbs, and have increased the carb throat size from 8.5mm to 9mm, so he reckons that will gain some more revs! Great guy! Will keep you posted.

Well, just fitted the new 9mm carb, and test run again with the 18x6 Mejzlik, and 20%... got 8370rpm. Same carb, but 30% Nitro... 8505rpm, both readings continuous revs. Will see how she performs once a gallon or so has been put through. I'm very happy with this, as hover pullout should be immensely better with this, and the engine is very light.

Well took my X-Tech Giles flying today. Had three flights, and tached the engine before each flight. The engine runs continuous at 8640rpm. The extra revs make an immense difference to hover pullout.

10% Nitro 14% Aerosave oil
8500-8600 APC 16*8
8100-8200 APC 16*10
Engine is a few years old so it is probably the small carb
Next spring will try the 200V on a F3A model
A picture of it to see the beauty of the lasers

Hi Hans,
I have a 240V (twin) in a Dave Patrick Extra 78" (14.5lbs) turning a 20x6 Mejzlik. When I first installed this engine, I didn't bother making any engine cowl ducting at all, and had problems with the engine overheating on one cylinder. This was confirmed by the head bolts coming loose. Anyway, I fitted new new piston rings to one piston, and this engine is now wonderful. I was fascinated when I dismantled the engine, because every internal part is like a work of art! The engineering is so beautiful, that the engine looks as good as an ornament on top of the television, as it does in the plane! This engine makes 9000 rpm with this prop, and pulls out a a hover with great authority, and accelerates outta sight! :-)
As for your 150... Your engine seems to be making even better power than mine! Must be because it has had more fuel through it, I guess.
Have another 240V arriving in a few days for my Extreme Flight Yak 54 - 74", as I love them sooo much!
Happy flying!

Thanks Mike for the comment. I hoped you would respond because I'm in doubt to buy/try the 240 before even using the 200.
While searching for info on the 240 I found a entry of yours with a link for a video of the 240 running wich could not get to load on my computer.
The video's of yours of the giles are very nice. I found them at first not knowing that the giles was powered by the 150.
I think this 150 is a incredible engine. It is reported to have the power of a 120 japanese offering. I don't think so. I'm flying it now with the 16*10 apc the laser has no trouble turning this prop in contrary to the saito that must rev higher with a smaller prop to reach its potential.
I just emailed Neil for his comment on using the 200 on a 190x190cm pattern ship of 4,5 kg

Hi Glen,
Laser only sell directly, as their manufaturing techniques/costs don't allow enough margin for retailers to be able to make anything. Lasers website is www.laserengines.com, and their phone numbers can be found there.
I have a Laser 70, 150, and two 240V twins (one still new in box). They all seem to be very econimical! In respect of gas... for big planes, I don't think you can beat gas, but in smaller planes, I would go with Laser personally, as I love them!
I have a 3W 56ib2 horizontally opposed twin gas engine in my Wildhare 50cc Extra, and love it to bits!

Hi Mike! thanks for that. I have a Saito 81 on a u can do. Goes well and want to continue with four strokes. The recomendations for the xtra wot is the laser 150 however my friend recons it will take loads of fuel. I dont think it can be that drastic!

150 isn't very thirsty, even the 240V twin will give long flights for a given amount of fuel. I think a Saito or YS will use a lot more. You have to be careful which Laser you use, as some of them have very good power to weight, but some are very heavy. The 70 is very light, as s the 150, and 240V. Others aren't so favourable.
Best,
Mike.

Could someone tell me what the HP of the laser 150 is? the laser 150 is lighter than the MVVS26 IFs, however i would like to compare the Hp. Its not in the websites spec. Thank you mike for the information you sent me the other day. I think i am going to go for the Laser however i want to make sure and do one last comparison on the HP.
Thank you Glen
