K&B .40 4011, 15% Omega, 4000' altitude, 70 deg.: 11x4 APC...............12,330 peak rpm
10x6 APC...............12,270 peak rpm

proptop, I'm using the stock muffler. This engine has kind of an unusual history. One friend gave it new in the box to another friend who couldn't get it to run right on the test stand. I picked it up and when I moved the prop, I felt roughness. I said it probably needed new bearings. He didn't want to mess with it so he gave it to me. I tore it down and ordered new bearings. When they came in, I found out I had gotten mixed up and ordered the wrong width bearings. The original bearings seemed OK and as I was re-assembling the engine, I noticed the drive washer was too far back and burning on the outer race of the front bearing. I wrapped the tapered collet with about three turns of teflon tape and created some clearance. It runs fine now. My rpm's at this altitude are always down from those posted with the same engines at sea level.

I just ran my K&B 40 after it sitting on a shelf for about 18 years with some 10%nitro/18%castorsyn blend:

K&B .40 4011 with stock muffler: 500FT, 80F, APC 10x6, 12,200 RPM
reverse rotation: APC 10x6P (pusher), 12,100 RPM

This was an experiment for a twin project I'm working on...
