Default Tach on TH motors

I have a Tower Hobbies 46 bb motors with 11x6 prop. I am getting about 11k rpm's and have heard that is too low....What prop should I be running to get about 13K or so ?

I hate to tell you this ,but if you are looking for 13k rpm on the ground static your motor will be short lived. Try a 10/6. That should put you at about 12 1/2k

Are you saying you know that a Tower 46 propped to turn 13,000 static
"will be short lived. Try a 10/6. That should put you at about 12 1/2k " ?
Is this a wild guess are do have some test results on engine life vs static rpm? I don't think your warning is true. Many fliers I know prop their .4 to .6 engines to turn 13,000+ on the ground and these engines live to ripe old age if a crash doesn't get them.

Data on the tach forum show using an 11x6 prop OS .46 turned 12,000, OS .5 12,600 to 13,500, MVVS .49 turned 13,000, Webra .5 turned 14,000. Your Tower .46 should do about 12,000 which I would go with.

There are many variables to this equation, nitro content, sea level, you name it. All I'm trying to say is keep it under 13k. You will be happy you did for longivity.

Small twostrokes are designed to rew fast to make power, just check with your manual, I think you will find that they state the hp at about 15-16000 rpm. If you run too big a prop to get low rpm you will put too much stress on the engine and it will overheat and will not live as long as it would if rewing higher on a smaller prop. I prop my MVVS 49 and ASP xls 52 to rew 13-14000 rpm on the ground. As long as you don`t run it lean it will just keep on screaming for a long time
