RCV 60 SP
I bought one finally. anyway first tank through it and recorded 5,500 on a 14x14 APC. once broken in i will look at extracting more power lol I can never leave things alone. ;) nothing major but blue print the engine and a larger carb for sure. might go with a carb mount with no 90 degree bend.

I see this was a few years ago now; did you ever do more with that engine? Did you fly it?
I got exactly the same rpm from mine on a 16x10, using 10% nitro. Not sure mine is fully broken in. That was after about 20 minutes of running from brand new. Starting was amazingly easy, running seemed quite smooth. I've mounted it in a Dave Patrick Ultimate 40, but the tank is a little low and the line is long, so poor fuel draw. I'm going to go back into it to try to improve fuel draw. Jim |
Hello, no I didn't do anything to the engine at all. Most everything I fly lately is over 120 mph so I quit flying the plane that had the engine. Maybe next year I will have some more time to mess with engines. sorry
|
Well, the RCV 60SP is probably not for going 120 mph no matter what you do to it!
I moved the fuel tank up and mine runs fine now and flies my Ultimate well, but not with a lot of gusto. |
Yeah the geared prop thing was a good concept and works well if the right applications. I flew mine on a 45 size stick model and was ok and would go vertical but at 20 mph lol. I wonder if small props at higher rpm would be better?

I don't know what the max rpm is. Website says practical range is 1400 - 6000 rpm, so on the ground 5500 is probably about right. No tappets or pushrods, so maybe it could go faster. Switching to a 14x14 would give more speed, but still no more than maybe 80 mph. Does anyone even make a prop like that? Fortunately I'm not really looking for speed.
|
Yes, APC make that prop, they still have a wide range of props and pretty much can make any prop that have had in the past. Look at their website.
