YS110FZ
Here are a couple of Tach readings from my YS110FZ. The engine only has 1 gallon of fuel through it so far:
All are with Cool Power 10% with about 3.5 oz of Synthetic lube added. Hey, it works great for my application, and idles very well also! All are flying needle set RPM's, and tached on the ground of course:) There's a fairly heavy trail behind the plane too, so I would say the figures are at a rich setting. Zinger 16x8 wood cut to 14&6/16"= 8.4K APC 16x8 pattern prop = 8.0K More on the way in due time........... By the way, what's your YS110FZ throwing your props at? Dennis |

This engine likes to be around 9K rpm or slightly above. Mine swings a Bolly 16.5x8 carbon fiber prop at 9.5K rpm peak, richen down to 9.2K rpm for flying. Fuel is Powermaster YS 20/20.

What is the fastest RPM you would feel would be safe running the engine/plane on the ground so once it is airborn, it would not over rev? |

I like my peak RPM between 9000 and 9200 on the ground. The engine sounds very healthy inside that range. I suppose 8.8K rpm is OK, but the engine feels like it's lugging a little.

More readings:
Today 9-01-04, around 75 degrees sunny. I used 10% Coolpower again with about 3.2 oz of Klotz synth oil added to the gallon. With a MasterAirscrew "Classic" 16x6, I was able to obtain a reliable idle at 1900 and full throttle would give me a solid 8.9K. This is the rpm's I flew the plane at... Try Master Airscrew "new" K-Series 16x6 and 15x8 props, which should give you much higher rpm over the Classic series. Mine peaks out over 10K rpm on the ground swinging the new MA 15x8.

I got a new YS 1.10FZ that is still breaking in. Spinning a APC 16x4 @ 10,300. Need to get a 17x4 to bring the RPM down.

Powermaster YS/Saito 20/20 fuel almost through the first gallon on a bench mount 15x6 Zinger wood prop, easily makes 10,600+ 15x7 MAS 3 Blade 8700, Though I figure it will unload and top 9000 in the air, I think a little more run time will loosen her up a little. I still want to try a 16x5 3 blade to compare. |

14x7 is too small for my project. Not interested in performance, as much as scale apprearance. Thanks tho.

I have a pair of 110's and there is about a 300 RPM difference between the two. Its been that way since I first opened the boxes regardless of setup or adjustment, so power does seem to vary a bit from engine to engine. Both are well broken in and run great.
On 30% heli and open exhaust pipes: 15x8 APC 9,800 and 10,100 (not enough prop but didn't give me a problem) 13.8x10 APC four-blade 8,900 and 9,200 I've been running the pair on my VQ P-61 Blackwidow using the 4-blade props for the past year. Full throttle on the stronger engine is adjusted to 8,900 peak to synch the engines. Look, sound and performance are awesome on the big warbird! Holy Moly that baby must really move!!!!! I'll check that vid. I know lots of people who run these sans muffler, so does it really make a big difference, other than niose?

There is a little bit of a power difference but the major benefits are that you don't have to fit a muffler in the cowl, the straight pipe doesn't want to come loose like a muffler sometimes does, and weight savings. And it does sound very cool, a bit noisier on the ground but strangely not that much louder in the air.

I checked the video out and I gotta say that it seems vertical performance is not a problem. We have a bunch of guys that cram a 110 into a 40 size arf and terrorize the field with their race and chase pattern. They all run with no muffler and with 4-5 of em in the air, it's pretty darned loud. I think I'll try the muffler for now. Thanks for the reply.

The 91AC in my 60-size Extra does have a muffler, no reason not to run one except for the reasons that I already posted. The difference in power is slight enough to be a non-factor.
