I have a pair of them on a TF Cessna 310.

12-6 APC's, 15% Omega fuel, 60 degrees, 300 ft ASL.

Each turns 11,450.

RE: OS-50SX

Dick,

I picked up my TF Cessna 310 last night and per your recommendation I asked for (2) OS 50's but the OS 50's are no longer available... it is reported that OS 55's "that the" distance between bottom of engine mounting to the top of the cylinder head causes a cowl interference. I would have thought that these were the same size castings. Did your OS 50's just barely fit?

Thanks

ACP

They clear the nacelles by about 1/8" to 1/4" maximum.

OS 50 SX
Slimline sport scale in cowl muffler
20% Powermaster fuel
12x6 MAS K series - 11,800 rpm
12x8 MAS K series - 9650 rpm
The 12x8 didn't overwork the motor, but a little overpropped.
Also have an APC 12x7 I haven't tried yet.

Hellcat thanks for posting those figures as I have been wondering how the 50 would pull the larger props. I have a Super Tiger 51 that pull about the same rpms with a 12X6.

RE: OS-50SX

OS 50 SX rpm's:

APC 9x8 @ 16,700; APC 10x6 @ 15,200
Sealevel (Florida)
90 degree Fahrenheit
60% humidity
15% PM, 18% oil contents

The 50 SX doesn't like bigger props. Besides, the rear ball bearings, piston rings and piston sleeve are worn up. Replacement parts exceed the cost of new engine. Had the SX 50 in a quick delta wing. Going for a Dubb Jett or MVVS now.

RE: OS-50SX

Never tried a 12x6 on the OS 50 SX. As I said in my previous post, the 50 SX doesn't like to turn larger diameters with high rpms. It will certainly run but don't expect too much. There is a reason OS take this engine off the line. Try the 55 AX with the bigger prop. If you want to go speed don't waste your time with OS. Go Jett, Rossi or MVVS.
