Saito 120 & 150 rpm
 

Hi?
I want to know high rpm of Saito 120 and 150 with 16-6 plastic Prop
Which engine is good for about 4.4Kg plane?

Let's see, 4.4 kg is just shy of 10 lbs.

Either should work, but the best selection would depend on the type of plane and the kind of flying that you want to do.

I don't have tach numbers for these particular engines but I'm sure others do.

This is what I've seen:

Saito 120 w/ APC 16x4W on 20/20 fuel = 10000 rpm

Saito 150 w/ APC 16x8 on 15% Omega fuel = 9000 rpm

Saito 120 should get 9300 on APC 16x6, while Saito 150 should get 9700 on APC 16x6, both using 20/20 fuel. I think 16x6 is too small for Saito 150 to show its advantage.

On a 4.4 kg plane, you are better off with Saito 150 and APC 17x6 propeller, swinging at about 9200 rpm. This will generate about 15 lb. of thrust.

Sean's Right on about a 17!QUOT! prop for the 150. I have a new 150 with 3/4 of a gallon of fuel through it. I just tested it with a APC 17x8N 140 Pattern Propeller using 15%nitro 20% oil fuel. It gave me 15.5lbs of thrust at ~9,000 rpm. Hauls my 9.5 lb plane through any 3D maneuver and vertical out of a hover is really cool! It just powers straight up! I love this 150!

They are series numbers. They sometimes don't make a lot of sense. The .91S is called a 'special'.

On the Saito 150 my 2002 model came with an "H" designation while my 2006, 150 showed an "S".

The ad on the box of the "H" model was 'Hemispherical combustion chamber'.
I assumed that meant the "H" was for that purpose.

The later 150 --the "S" appears the same but no reference to "Hemi".
My "H" model also appeared to have more power-----but I sold the "S" model before I had a gallon through it and replaced it with a 180.
So that comparison is at least limited.

Thanks onewasp. Saito went to a lot of trouble to have the "S" in gold on the engine and sticker on the box. I havent run the engine but have got over worrying what it means. I do know it has a lot of compression, more than a 180 and my other 150. For others the 18X6 prop is best choice for 12 lb extra. John

I have a T34 gold edition with a saito 120. What would be the best size 3 bladed prop for all around performance?

I have a 125 with a 17X6 apc and it turns 8500 which in my opinion is enough. I wouln't worry about high RPM with a 4 stroke because they are designed for torque. I over prop all my engines, I usually experiment until I get good throttle response while keeping the rpm between 8000 and 8500. Keep in mind that you will gain 250-500 rpm in the air, as the prop unloads .

heyerflyer I tried a 15X8 3 blade Zinger on my 125, it pulled 8500 rpm and the throttle response was instant. Im not fimilar with the 120 but you will must likely have to experiment with different sizes or pitches, the Zinger 3 blades are expensive but useful because you can swap blades on one hub.

i recently rebuilt my 120s put new bearing s a new crank and connecting rod, gaskets and all....i should have some numbers tomorrow....i just know it sounds scarry when i revv it up.....very grunty like a raging bull hehe i might need to bump up to a 15x8 im after speed on a low wing stik

My glow ignited Saito FA 150 W/Dynathrust 18X8 on 15% Morgan's Cool Power 7700 RPM, 16.97# static thrust, 2.604 HP

Same engine, same fuel, same prop W/C&H electronic ignition @ 28* BTDC. 7850 RPM, 17.64# static thrust, 2.759 HP W/ 23% longer run time on the same fuel load.

Once you run spark ignition W/glow fuel on the big Saitos you'll never go back.
