Engine to date has 24 gallons through it. Props tested are the Air Models 26x12 3 blade and the Mejzlik 28x10 2 blade.

AM 26x12 - 6100 RPM
Mej 28-10 - 6700 RPM

Nice to see some gas info in the 100 to 150 range. Too cold here to get anything useful yet :( What model is it in?

Da 100

Hi Bob,
Yeah, I saw that there wasn't very many gas engines on here, and that's exactly why I posted the numbers. I figured soembody would be looking on here for the info. . The engine is installed in a 35% RadioCraft 330LX. The plane performs fabulous. In fact, I just got back from the flying field and flew all day. I've had a ball with the airplane, and the engine gets better and better the more I fly it. The DA 100 is an awesome piece of machinery! BTW, it turned 6200 today after it was warmed up on the AM 26-12.

What type of flying are you doing? That 12" must keep it moving pretty good

Da 100

Hi Bob,
I fly alot of IMAC. The 26-12 is a 3 blade. It flies maybe a little faster than the 2 blade 28-10, but it's much smoother and subtle on the acceleration so you never really get to full speed. The engine is so powerful that you have to use the throttle alot which works out nicely to keep the speed down. It keeps the rpms down which really makes it quiet in the air. There is a little reduction in pull, but I can live with that. With as much power as the engine has I almost never use full power. I was out yesterday practicing snaps on 45 lines and was only using maybe 3/4 power...somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 anyways. I think the 3 blade really flies better than the Mej. 28-10...don't get me wrong now...the Mej 28-10 is a great prop and flies literally ballistic, but it flies with such authority that you really have to be careful not to rip the prop, and also have to be careful not to overdo it on the power or it'll accelerate so fast in the verticals you can barely keep up with it! LOL I guess to sum up the differences...the 3 blade is a 'smooth cruise' prop, and the 28-10 is the 'explosive punch' prop.

So what's your take on fiber vs wood on the prop issue? What in your opinion would be a better 3D prop, a two or three blade?

Bob,
Do you fly at Downstown?
Brian

Yes

Since 1976...

I guess that answers my question! I belong to Downstown (3 years now), just not fimiliar with all the members.

I was actually going to go out there today but the wind S%^KS! Got my new Rearwin speedster together and wanted to test fly before the weekend. If all goes well I'll be out there Saturday. I drive the bright green glow in the dark Jeep Cherokee! Can't miss it. Usually has a red trailer behind it too.

Lets set the record straight

To set the record straight, the numbers quoted by Tim (aero330lx) of 6700 with a Mejzlik 28-10 are with a Tuned Canister setup on the engine, which boosts power by 200-300 rpm over "stock" DA mufflers. Not to start a "power number war". . .most people are seeing 6400-6500 with this prop combination on "stock" DA mufflers, and given that Aero330lx is using canisters, the loss of 200-300 rpm would tend to validate this power range for the DA100. One other factor is that power numbers vary with engine temperature. No mention is given whether these figures are HOT or COLD (first pull after startup). Cold figures generally tend to be about 100-150 rpm stronger than HOT figures.

5 gallons through my DA-100, still running Lawnboy Ashless, and cold temps today of about 45 degrees. Near sea level. 6630 with a Mejzlik 28-10 on standard mufflers.

6 gallons through my DA100. Running stock mufflers, just switched from Lawnboy Ashless to Amsoil 100-1 synthetic. RPM on Mejzlik 28x10 right after landing on a 10 minute flight was 6350. Running in high humidity Houston area when temperature was 85 degrees.

How does a 3W 106 compair to these numbers?

Flyfalcons 11-16-2003 11:34 PM

RE: Lets set the record straight

Some say it has more power, I have talked to someone who felt he got more power on a DA-100 than the 106 on the same plane, and some say they are about the same.

Flyfalcons, How about the QS 3W-106?

RE: Lets set the record straight

I just bought a DA 100. Have had 2 106s. The 106 will out turn the DA in the rpm dept. My stock non ss, toc, qs 106 turned a menz 28x10 at 6550, and a 3w 28x10 at 6400. My motor had about 12 gallons through it. We took the same 28x10 menz off my 106 and put it on a da 100 that has 40+ gallons through it, and it turned the prop at 6000. Yes the 106 has more umph, but both are overkill on a 35% plane. The 106 shows its colors on a 28-30lb plane. I however, have decided to run DA after seeing a few things this past weekend.

Hey razrback:
What things did you see that convinced you to go DA?
I've been pretty happy with 3W, but I realize that DA makes excellent products also.

RE: Lets set the record straight

There are DA's and 106's in my club. I chose the DA on the basis of vibration and throttle transition. Perhaps the 106 isn't tuned as well as the DA's, but at the top end, the 106 has more brut power without question. The DA's work well w/ Menzs 27x10's. The 106's were ripping the Menzs 27x10 on the first day.
