Control Linkage

Hay Don I was wondering , I was looking at your Brio in Huntsville it looked regular clevis hookups and not ball bearing stuff . Am I correct and what are you thoughts on the differences in the two types ?

Thanks Kirk

Simplicity.
It works reliably,
Easy to set up and make changes,
Cost is minimal.

See you,

Don

Very interesting question Kirk!!!

May I ask what kind of clevis did you choose Don? Nylon, metal? Product name?

Some time ago I was in the process of choosing them too, and finally I decided for some standard ball bearing end points... I left the expensive MK stuff on the shelf!

Well, I used Du Bro nylon but after 2 seasons they have developed some slop, so I plan to replace them with either nylon or the expensive bb kind...

If you use nylon, be sure to use a keeper/tubing to keep it tight against the linkage. That is where the strength is.

Thanks Don

If I understand correctly, some little play will not affect the airplane trimming too much, am I right?

That would be an interesting consideration, since it proves that we don't need all the top quality accessories to reach a good performance.

Bye Don!

About how many flights will you make in two seasons? I bet a lot more than I do. Mine may never wear out.

RE: Control Linkage

Understand I split my flying between 3 airplanes in the last 2 1/2 seasons. The yellow one that had BB linkages took the brunt of my flying. I probably put 60 or 70 gallons though that plane. Maybe 500 to 550 flights and the bb links have some play in them. The two other Brio's I probably have between 75 and 100 flights each. I took the linkages off the elevators tonight and they are ok. Worn slightly but ok. I'm replacing them with new link/horn and control clevis, both plastic now with no slop.
