Can you provide any details on the foamy bipe that you brought to the NVRC indoor fly-in on Saturday?

It flew very well in the confined space we had, and is optimized for small size gymnasiums.

The other plane was a Jason Noll designed Vrolet. Weight is 5.2 oz, 6 oz with Thunder Tiger 450mAh battery.
My CG is about 5 3/4 inches from the TE, a bit forward, However, the plane locks well at four point rolls at this forward point. Plane is from Fancy Foam models.

Jeff the holes help dampen the control surfaces, lighten the airframe, but most importantly provide some drag to the plane. It is very common to see these in the states- either holes or triangles near the TE.

I flew this plane today and noticed how much better the plane flew with the 480 2S thunder power as compared to the 730 thunder power 2S pack I had. The biggest difference was weight. I realized there are a couple of quick things to do to remove some more weight. First, I removed about 12 inches of unused wires and connectors (4 inches times three) for the three leads going between the speed control to the motor, and then soldering the now shorter wires together. I hardly ever take out the motor or speed controller but if I need to then it only takes a few minutes to de-solder the wires. I also took a knife and cut a good portion of the prop hub down. These two things took around 1/4 to 1/3 ounce off of the plane. I could not believe how much of a difference this made. The plane flies with much more authority (it may have been loosing some power from the longer leads as well). This change also moved the CG back a bit closer to the recommended spot (5 inches from the TE). I also bumped up the elevator throw to more 3D (less of an F3P rate). Now rolling harriers are so much nicer.

Ross, I switched from the Spektrum 6000 to the 6100e, plane is now down to 4.8 oz. The lighter it gets the better it flies. Another interesting observation is as much the plane is light, it floats when it moves. So if it bumps something or lands, its got longevity. Its so light it does not damage the plane. The new 6300 Spektrum receiver at 2 grams is pretty incredible. Next one will have that one for sure.

This is exciting and hope to see you at the indoor fly tonight. There should be enough room for the entire pattern sequence.

I picked up a Mystic bipe from Mark DeAngelis http://www.hobby-lobby.com/mystic.htm It is supposed to be 7.2 oz all up weight. I have the AXI 2204/54 motor, CC Thunderbird 9 ESC, a Berg 4L micro stamp receiver, 3 Futaba 3110 servos 7.8 grams, and I just ordered 2 Flitepower 350 2S batteries. They are 21grams vice the 23 for the thunder power 480. We will see if they hold up. Hopefully it will come out light and I will be ready for the indoor flyin that hobby hangar is sponsoring March 15th. See you there.

BTW The CPLR motor is supposed to be the hot micro motor. Should be nice. Did you figure out the problem with the Park 250? I wonder if you shot the bearings the first few flights with the out of balance prop.

Well I ran too large of a prop (APC 8x3.8) which heated things up while I was torque rolling a lot and I believe may have impacted the performance of the speed controller (or I did not program it correctly). I'm using the GWS 8040 which keeps things nice and cool and I put in a thunderbird 9 and the plane is back to peak performance- now its more power management! The CPLR nano motor is about 3 grams heavier than the E-FLIGHT 250 but has a slightly larger ring to it. I'm still comparing the two; both run very well.

I've also tried the Thunder Power 350 which is about 2 grams lighter than the 480 and although not as long of a flight, I believe it has better punch to it (less internal impedence) and thus higher burst C. There are a few folks getting together Enticements for the next E fly in as well. I'm very happy about Joe C's Enticement- two highly successful flights and not a scratch after the flyin. He does heli's which helps with the left stick inputs (you gotta steer with the rudder). I'll be flying the Vrolet again, I expect.

My foamy is all framed up. Just need to do the linkages and the reinforcing string. The airframe is 2.3 oz and the components weight about 2.5 oz. So add another 1 oz for the battery and I should be just under 6 oz. I think it should fly pretty well.

Need a parachute for maneuver number nine. A deployable one that can be released just after the exit. Spare that, a drag brake, for now.
