New to and looking for a first RTR Sailboat
 

Hello All, Thank you for accepting me to RC Universe. I'm a "Green-Horn" to electric model Sail boating. I do have a 30+ year old RC Submarine and began sailing again.
I'm 64 and would enjoy sailing a RC Sail Boat and I had found looking for one is quite hard i.e., either the reviews are bad, boat is a toy, boat is ginormous, boat sinks or they are $1500.00 and up RTR. I'd like to start my entry with a boat with a TRUSTED name that sails in a pond, has a decent range and durable/ fun to learn sailing skills with--is there such a boat out there--laugh....
Perhaps ones that look and one can rent in Central Park--I think?? I believe my building patience to buy in kit form has left me at this juncture; however that could change at some point.
Any information that anyone can help this Green Horn learn from, would very much be most appreciated.

$1500??? You are looking in the wrong place. I see Horizon Hobby has the Kyosho Fortune RTR on sale now at just $250. It's a 24 inch long boat and comes with everything you need. And Kyosho is a good brand.

And welcome to the world of RC sailing. It's a lot of fun and can be very relaxing until you start taking on water from a lay over. When you do get a lay over just head for shore quickly and rain the water out. Note I said when, not if.

Thanks for the reply, RG. When you say, "Until you start taking on water from a lay over" do you mean when the boat is on its side and the
sail is getting soaked? Do all sail boats have this problem? Are there others that do not? I looked at the Kyosho Brand and their different
model boat and some of the different review sites and one, higher priced model, SINKS. I know some say their boats don't sink, won't take
on water, servo compartment is waterproof etc. I imaging ALL Sail boats have their pros and cons. I could go up to $400 to buy-- if I knew
I was getting MORE safety features in a boat .Could you recommend, I'd very much appreciate that, a few others that you think you would
sail in this price range.
