Default Raptor 50v2 Mods

I just ordered my Raptor 50 V2 and was wondering if there are any "must have" mods to make it a better chopper??

I have limited experience with an old Concept 30 SR-X. the concept seems to not hold it's altitude very and i'm wondering if the Raptor is also "floaty"?

Not really it's a great heli out of the box.

What engine have you ordered to go with it?

Here in the UK the recommended pairing is with an OS50 or similar.

Have fun and enjoy building it !!

Never flown a concept 30, but the 50 size raptor does hold a littel more steady than the raptor 30 does. (biger is always more stable). The controlls can be very touchy or quite soft depending on your settings, servo throw, head speed....

The OS 50 is great, the most trouble free power you can get for that bird IMO.

I ended up with the TT50-H because at the price, i couldn't say no (effectively nearly a free engine) Are they troublesome?

My controls without the servos connected seem a little tight compared to the old Concept. will the Raptor contorls loosen up a little with some flying?

Get "The Greaser" and grease all your bearings. It will save you money and possibly your heli. I had my pinion bearing go out...learned a hard lesson. I also got the MP2 muffler. It really kicks the TT50 engine into high gear.

Is it a requirement to grease all the bearings? Just built a Raptor 50 V2, and I didn't read anything on the manual to grease all bearings. I hate to take everything apart again to grease the bearings but if it's a must then I have no choice. I've greased the thrust bearings and the dampers, I wish the manual could be more informative.......

Also can anyone tell me which parts do I need to put oil on?

Thank you in advance..........

You do not have to Grease your whole Heli. But your bearings will wear out sooner without doing this. Your pinion bearing runs at the same RPM as your engine. Your engine has the oil in your fuel mixture to lube it...your pinion bearing doesn't. I have know a guy who is on the same bearing after 3 years of hard 3D. I started replacing some of mine after 6 months. You might fly as it is as grease as you crash (and you will) or grease as you replace the bearings.

The Raptor is now flying,

What a great machine!!! heaps better and far more stable in wind than the Concept. I also didn't grease my bearings either, apart from the oily smoke from the early really rich runs.

The engine runs like clockwork and doesn't seem to leak either. very happy.

Where do you get the MP2 muffler from? cost?

The MP2 (Muscle Pipe II) is made by Curtis Youngblood Enterprises.

Web site quotes street price @ $110

His web site currently states - "MP2 50 LR- Low gear ratio 8.5 - 9.0 (Raptor, Hirobo) Out of Stock. Next shipment due by middle of February. Check your hobby shop for availability. Runs best with standard OS 50 carb and Morgan 15%-30% fuels."

Thanks mate,

i'll keep my eye out for the next shipment. The guys at the field said i was running way too low a head speed, we cranked in up and it's even better chopper again!!! Can't wait to start flying 3D.
