Default Gonna get a Raptor 30 v2

as soon as I can find someone close to Nashville, Tenn
that wants to get rid of one.
I have a New Futaba 7cap radio to use, what I would like is a little info
from someone running this combo that could give me
a few setup pointers.
I started with heli's 3 years ago and went to planes
now wanting to get started in heli's again and everyone seems
to think the Raptor 30 v2 would be the way to go.
also if you know of someone close to the middle tn area
looking to get rid of one let me know.

Thanks

Default RE: Gonna get a Raptor 30 v2

Hi Bob, welcome back to the addiction

I flew electric helis for awhile and then bought my first nitro, a R30V2.
It flew ok but i quickly needed more to say the least.
The 50V2 would be a much better choice, i have one now and love it,
it has all the power i need and no heat issues.

Good luck in whichever one you choose and happy flyin!!!

Here's the advice I got, and I've found it to be very true so far...

1) Get a Raptor 50 V2... it's a little larger, more power, little more stable in the wind, easy to learn on, and it can take you from hovering with training gear to 3D flight with no upgrades. The 30 will save you some nitro costs, but most people I've heard from that started with the 30 outgrew it fast, and wished they'd just gotten a 50 to begin with.

2) Get a kit and build it, don't by an RTF, ARF, or used. Helis are easy to repair/rebuild when you crash, if you know how to build them already! If you buy an RTF/ARF, you won't know how it went together, and have a much harder time figuring out how to repair it! I haven't crashed yet (thank goodness), but after my first tank, my clutch locked up on me. Since I had built my Raptor, I was able to drop the engine, diagnose the problem, and fix it within 2 hrs. If you buy used, not only do you lack the assembly experience, but you don't know what state of repair the used bird is in. Buying anything used, and not knowing much about it or what to look for to be sure it's in good condition is just a bad idea, IMO.

In my 50, I'm using Futabas...
S9252 for the cyclic and collective pitch
S9254 with a GY401 for the tail pitch
S9001 for the throttle

Does the Raptor 30 v2 come
standard with an autorotation hub?
or is it just an upgrade, also where is the best place
to see what all the different upgrades are.

Thanks

I don't have a Raptor 30 v2 but I am pretty sure that it comes standard with an auto-rotation hub,I think most of the new stock heli's come out with auto-rotation hubs.I may be wrong
There are many websites where you can check which upgrades are available for the Raptor 30 v2.One website that I found was [link]http://www.helikraft.com[/link] they have quite a few upgrades priced very well.

In my opinion the best gyro's are as follows:

Futaba GY 401 apparently there is GY 402 coming out or is already out. That would explain why the GY 401's have become much cheaper.

Futaba GY 502
Futaba GY 601
CSM SL420
CSM SL560
JR 5000T

and obviously they should be used with a digital servo to experince their full potential.

I believe the 30V2 has the autorotation hub, but not the constant tail drive that the 50V2 has. I believe the 30's tail gear bolts directly to the spur gear, while the 50's is actually connected to the main rotor shaft. This means the 30's tail rotor doesn't autorotate with the main rotor blades, like 50's will.

Here's a diagram of both of them on RaptorTechnique's website...
