Paint for TT MD500 fuse
Ok,I'm almost done with the Thunder Tiger Hughes MD500 fuse and the more I look at it,the more Im convinced that it needs some tan and brown camo applied over the dull army green finish.I dont want to get real complicated here, just tape it off, grab a couple spray cans of flat tan and flat brown and shoot it right over the factory paint.
What paint should I use??
ALSO,I live in Chicago, where paint in spray cans are against the law.(!)
So Im gonna have to drive a couple suburbs away to get some so I gotta get the right stuff.
ANybody got some SOUND suggestions?
and by sound,I mean experienced.
Thanks
Joe

Yeah,Andy-the mayor decided a lotta years ago that it would be easier to outlaw spray paint than to catch the little punks that were using it to "tag"various things in the city

Yes it's a very good idea to paint this thing. The olive green is terrible for visibility, and completely washes out when you get moderatley far away. My heart has stopped a few times with this thing when I lost orientation[X(]
I'm hoping that a tan camo job will help. I had a smaller Hughes 500 made by Kyosho and never had the visibility problem like I do with this big green monster.

RE: Paint for TT MD500 fuse
I havent painted it yet, but am getting the stuff together and deciding on a scheme. I think I am going to use latex . I used latex before and it works excellent for military camo, sprays very good and is easy to work with. It also takes weathering effects better than oil based. Also you can get ANY color you can think of. I think though it is not very fuel proof, but I dont make a mess My MD stays very clean, got the exhaust running out the bottom rear.
Maybe I'll clear coat it to help.
What scheme are you planning on doing?

Im gonna do jungle camo=by the way-if you dont use a fuelproof paint, youre gonna have a gooey mess all over your fuse in time,
Ive decided to use a fuelproof pactra r/c nitro car paint that is used inside lexan car bodies since it will be a flat finish

I've found that "fuelproof" paint is not usually "fuelproof"
The only real fuelproof paint I have used 2 part type. I have yet to find an aerosol 1 part paint that is really fuelproof. I think the heli stays clean enough. The oil is ok, you just dont want to hose down the model with raw fuel.
Here is the sceheme I am doing. Not many to choose from.

The videos I have of the tank suck, my digital camera doesent take very good videos. I will fix them check it later today.
You either have to build one from the FOA kit like I did, and it's a LOT of work to make it function right {suspension, drives etc}, or buy a Mark 1 tank and spend the big bucks.
Actually either way is big bucks in the end, unfortunately the 1/6 tanks are very expensive, Almost on par with turbine jets.[:@]
Roy, thanks for the compliments.
I got 1/2 of my MD painted, will post picts here when I'm done.
Hows yours coming?

Its latex flat. Yes I just scuffed the whole heli with fine steel wool and cleaned and painted. Luckily I had the near perfect color already on hand from painting the Tiger tank.
I dont even know what country my scheme is from
I think it is a Latin country but which one I'm not sure. Since I live down here in Mexico now maybe I'll cheat and put the Mex flag on it in place of the bullseye thing.

RE: Paint for TT MD500 fuse
Well got the whole thing painted today. Scribed out the panel lines too. I think it is going to be a respectable scale heli when I get done[X(]
Im going to have to do the bullseye insignia and related markings, just because the fact I had such a good color match paint just lying around waiting to do this. I think it's from Brazil...

RE: Paint for TT MD500 fuse
Looks great RPM!!!!! I knew id deen that color beforem !!!! I like the scheme, it will be much easier to spot in the sky!!!
Im adding some scale details to mine before i paint it, i painted the inside black ,added a machine gun,
cut off the back and added a turbine exhaust and next is to cut up a scale cockpit for it. Also added a remote fueler, should have
done that from the start!!
Great to see others with this fuselage !!!!!!!!!!
Havent posted in awhile due to a recent surgery but am glad to be back, lots of great fall flying up here in new england.
Happy Flyin'

Hi Dave,
Wondered where you went. Nice to see you back, hope all is well with you. Cant wait to add a camera to my MD As well as lights too[8D]
Be sure to post picts of that cockpit!
2 miniguns would be wicked. But for now I am still developing the Estes powered TOW missles. I have lots of empty Mexican desert around me to play with that kind of stuff.
