Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
Hi,
We've experimented Raptor 39V2 using gasoline fuel (no methanol or ethanol). It works.
Details:-
Frame: Raptor39V2
Engine: TT50 (TT39 also works but TT50 has better power and cooler)
Fuel: Gasoline octane 95 mixed with 2 stroke engine oil (Petroleum based) ratio 3:1
Plug: Glow plug OS#8 with always on plug power system

RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
with that oil ratio im surprised that it runs
gasoline is normally really fussy from what i have heard.
what kind of flight time could you get on it?

With a gallon of 30% nitro costing upwards of $20 here in the states, at about $4.25 a gallon, premium gasoline is a steal!! You will need to post some more information like engine temps, flight times, needle settings, wether you had to change your throttle and pitch curves, wether it runs stronger with gasoline or the nitro fuel, etc.
I would really like to try this myself but need more information before doing so.

If it overheat and stop on air, what will you do
Auto landing if it could, same as nitro. But to prevent overheating we used over size engine. In this case 50 engine on 30 body.

Yes, it was really fussy if I used spark plug. To use glow plug is a lot less fussy. The flight time could be longer than nitro or at least equal.

Of course....and also gasoline is easy to find than nitro. All the setting that you are mentioning will be definitely changed. But I believe this procedure is very normal when you change the fuel. If you want the perfect set up, re-setting should be considered. Gasoline runs less power but hotter than nitro. (compare to 15% nitro). This is why over-size engine must be considered.

One really importance thing I forgot to tell you. All fuel line (tube) which is only used for nitro must be changed to gasoline or gasoline/nitro type. I mean all which include in the main and sub tank, fuel pump, etc. But I did nothing (no any modification) the engine and engine carb.

Suggest you all check out the gas/glow thread in ENGINE CONVERSIONS, I fly fixed wing with gas/glow and it works, I dont know how the suggested fuel in this thread would be feasible.

i would expect to buy seals for your carburetor pretty soon, the petroleum based oil will eat up the seals and make them swell.

RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
If I am understanding the ratio correctly (3:1) that is 32 oz of oil/gal! Most heli fuels are 20% (a lot of oil!) which would be only 25.6 oz/gal. Remember methanol is a "dry" fuel while gasoline has some lubricity, maybe you could reduce the oil some. I know bushing engines require more oil but I ran a Super Tigre 3000 on gasoline @ 25:1 which is roughly 5oz/gal with no problems.

I tried both OS and TT Engine, found that both work with gasoline. But seals (mostly O-ring in carb) in OS are swelled by gasoline while seals in TT are not.
About 3:1 gas/oil mix, I have tried many different ratio and finally 3:1 is the best ratio for helicopter.

RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
hi I am back. Forgive me my network had problem so far.
This is the other clip showing E20 (gas=80, ethanol=20) blended with 2 stoke lube 4:1.
Sorry that we've not hard flown yet.

Remote glow driver is made to power glow plug. It can turn on or off from the transmitter.
We use 3 cells Lipo 1500 mAH to power all electronic equipments including glow plug with the help of homemade electronics device called AIO (shorten from All-In-One). Average current drain from Lipo is less than 1A even though while powering to glow plug. So flight time can roughly estimate for more than 1 hr.

After more than 10 hovering flights, its TT50 engine was inspected. It is still in very good condition. No any worn part was detected.

This is the one of good enough after hard time tuning.
