This is True.

In my R30 I had a Webra-35 which refused to run correctly. Lots of flameouts, and would bog down while hovering. I assumed that it was running lean, and kept richening...

Finally got a non-contact thermometer - a cheapo one from Radio Shack. Did a bit of research, and found that most .30-class engines are happiest with a running temp around 220-230 degrees.

Fired up, hovered, then tested my Webra... 192 degrees.

Leaned the engine to a consistent 220 degrees, and damn if it didn't run perfectly.

I have a R50 now. Its a ringed engine and is still breaking in, so I'm running it a hair on the rich side at 210 degrees. So far, so good.

Hi Visioneer_one

Thanks for the reply. So which part of the engine is the temperature taken, the glow plug or the heat sink etc....

RE: Actual Temperature for heli engine (TT50 and TT36)

I have an aftermarket on-board temp gauge and it reads a max of 220 to 230 on my TT36. The thermocouple is located at the junction of the head and cylinder and is 90 degrees from the exhaust port (per instructions). So in my case the TC is on the bottom.

I tried going rich to bring the temp down (was told 210 is better) but it just does not run well like that. So I leaned it back and it is happy now. I agree that the 30's can stand to run a bit hotter than 210.

Also I do alot of hovering which seems to generate the most heat.

Hope this helps
