Bwd
There is a slot for the hinge to run up and down in theLE of the control surface as in full scale pratice. I imagine Cafeenman does it this way as do I.

I found CafeenMan's site a lot of help in deciding how to install the hinge points. I never really understood the hinge point being in the radius of the leading edge of the control surface until I looked at his site and read all TWELVE (12) pages explaining the entire process. Thanks CafeenMan!!
My pleasure. Thanks for the kind words. Actually, we should thank Robart. Hinge Points are awesome!

I had to read your post a couple times to figure out what the 12 pages were. As far as I know, I only have one page on my site about the hinge points. You must be talking about 12 printed pages, right?

Correct, 12 printed pages, printed it off and put it in my ring binder where I keep all best of the tips I pickup here and other websites.

On another note, I have also used the Pacer Technology hinge glue instead of epoxy with lots of success. Due to the nozzle on the bottle, seems it would be good to get the glue down in the hinge point holes. And the water cleanup is a plus over the epoxy mess.
I will probably try both out and see what works the best.

I also am trying the "perfect wing saddle" tip with expoxy, microballoons, and wax paper. Looks like a winner. I always used foam tape to fill the "gap" and the tape never stays on.

Thanks for taking the time to put together such an informative site.

So if I fix a typo, do you want me to contact you so you can print out the latest version?

I personally will use Robarts on 1/4 scale and up and CA hinges on smaller planes. Never had either fail.

1/2a for up to .20 size. 1/8" for up to .90 and 3/16 for larger than that. It also matters how many hinges you use. I put 1/2a hinges in a .46 powered beast but used a lot of them. They held up will except that the elevator was mounted on the bottom of the fuselage and it hit the ground a few times on landing which broke the outboard hinges. I've never had any hinge point fail in flight ever.

reply to hinge point diagram by cafeenman. diagram incorrect. hinge point is at tip of v shape on trailing edge of wing and leading v edge of control surface. draw an x and then draw a circle around the x with the radius of the circle just touching the outside edges of the x this represents the hinge point.
