Consider using shafts for kite frames. They come in every shape and size imaginable. Most of the ultra high performance (stiff and light) rods are tapered, however.

Do a little searching on this site for replacement parts.

Try www.cstsales.com. They have all kinds of sizes of rods, both hollow and solid. Regards.

Hey! It just so happens that archery is my #2 hobby. I seem to almost always find at least one split shaft in the trash barrel, at the local shooting range. I haven't bought an arrow shaft in quite some time. I have found them in the trash can at the archery shops as well.

Look in the phone book for archery ranges - especially indoor ones with pro shops. They will have broken shafts you can get for free, or you can buy new. If the carbon shafts become nicked they are unuseable in a bow - but will work fine for control rods.

If there is a range with an outdoor 3-D course nearby you can sneak in and walk around finding 'culls' near the target bales. Or, you can be upfront and ask the owner. Bring a trash bag and tell him you'll pick up litter as you go in exchange for any shafts you find.

The central hobbies ones are nice, Dave Brown also makes some.

For Arrow Shafts try Cabelas or Redhead (Bass Pro Shops hunting side).

Mr. B Stang,
I read somewhere that Dave Browns stuff may be fiberglass shafts? These may be somewhat less stiff and weigh more by degree then the c.f. units. I've purchased actual c.f. arrow shafts from a bow shop supplier here and they are both way light and very stiff. Just a heads up to check and make sure you are getting what your looking/paying for. Have not used the D.B. stuff myself, but his spinners are nice and well priced .

I used to build torque tube for helicopters, years ago. I always got my arrow shafts from a large sporting goods dealer.
Some places will charge you the same for the shafts as the would for the complete arrow, so watch it.

Dave Brown shafts are fiberglass, but pretty light weight and stiff.

Default Carbon fibre pushrods.

I haven`t seen any mention here of fishing tackle shops.

I haven`t bought a composite push-rod - ever. All mine, and I still have plenty in my stock, started life as fly-fishing rods and have been supplied free from these outlets.

Ah, well - comes with the territory I guess.
