Only the other Aussies are going to know the secret of your Avatar. I didn't think there were any amphibians left on the central coast post rampant development and waterway pollution? Let alone the nether regions of their anatomy.

Measure twice or three times and cut once.

Put some masking tape on the fuselage and draw reference lines from the needle valve, glow plug and carby. Transpose these measurements to your cowl and cut away. With some engines in some installations you may have to remove the head to avoid major surgery to the cowl.

I drill holes with a fine bit and enlarge with the small drum sanding attachment on my dremel. Work slowly removing a small bit at a time. When you mount the cowl make sure you are screwing into ply or hard wood. You may need to make up some blocks to screw into. I also find it helps to stop the cowl cracking if you use a rubber grommets in the screw holes in the cowl or cover the screw in fuel tubing to avoid direct contact between metal screw and cowl. Some use plastic screws.

Ensure that the exit for the cooling air is three times larger than the inlet. It is also usually best to have the muffler exiting the bottom of the cowl. This is usually easy with a four stroke but with a two stroke you will need to mount on an angle.

I would suggest you do a search and look at the huge variety of options in cowl installation.

Did I say measure many times and cut once??? Good luck.

Cheers,

Colin

Congratulations,

Much better than my first effort. Hope you have a lot of fun flying it. If you want to be anal you can touch up the edges where you cut through the red with a matching colour.

Cheers,

Colin
