Default How to remove burn marks from lite ply

Had the fuse of my Goldberg Extra soak up some smoke oil. Tried using corn starch but it didn't work. Before I bought some K2R, I tried burning the oil out with a propane torch. Well, I torched it too much and now the side of my fuse has burn marks on it. I tried sanding them out, but their too deep. I need to get the burns out so they will not show through my white Ultracote. Anybody have any other suggestions??

I would say paint it. Next time use a hot air gun. Soaked in oil and fuel residue come to the surface so you can wipe it off with a paper towel. Wipe with a clean section of paper towel each time.

A slightly thinned coat of white dope, brushed on will lighten it up just a shade, and will act as primer and help the covering stick better. Put a "patch" of covering material over the bad area first,
then cover over as normal. You may see a slight "rise" or
imperfection, but the burn will not show through.

If it is too deep to sand out, is the lite ply still structurally sound?

Hey Nick. I'm from Ocilla, you fly at Spence Field?

If you can get enough white "base-cote" on the wood....
you might just be able to recover it without anyone
noticeing. ( I won't tell )

Default burns

The outer layer of the ply seperated after being heated. I removed the de-laminated section and filled over it. It still seems sturdy. I'm going to try and bleach out the burns. If that doesn't work, I'll try the lusterkote of dope. planecrazy101, yes, I do fly at Spencefield both full scale and RC.
