tg,

I have used a number 2 pencil and they come out great. You can also use a rag and drag it from the front of the aircraft to the rear (the same as the flow of the air) and create "weathering effects". If you are looking for a pattern look here and find something close to your wing shape:

Do you then clear coat over the pencil marks? If so, have you had any trouble with the pencil lead bleeding through?

Helix makes felt tip ink pens in various sizes from .1mm up to .8mm The ink will adhere to quite well to just about anything (including film coverings ), however it is not fuel proof. I know it comes in black and "I THINK" it is available in other colors also.

Depending on the size/scale of the plane you may want to use a specific size pen to keep the panel lines more to scale. One other thing, if you look at photos of full scale planes, the panel lines are not black, but sort of a muddy brown/black in color (sometimes a muddy gray/black ).

If you use this, I would mist a coat of clear on first, then after the mist coat has dried, shoot the regular coat of clear.

Helix pens are available in many drafting supply stores. I purchased mine in a Staples.

Hope this helps.
