Good day
I have just finished painting a Great Planes Stearman with latex, and I'm looking for a "true" flat finish with a clearcoat. I have tried Top-Flite Lustrekote flat clear on another project and I was very disappointed, as there was still a somewhat shiny finish.
I use 15% glow fuel.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Todd

Nelson Hobby Specialties offers a water-based clear coat in flat. If used with the extra crosslinker, it is said to be absolutely fuel proof. It's a little pricey, but is said to go a long way. I ordered some for a project I am currently working on, but since I haven't gotten to the finishing stage, I can't speak from personal experience yet. I have read good reviews, however, which led me to purchase it. Good luck, Dzl

Ive had luck spraying it on the covering regular flat clear coat, just you need to have a heat gun ready as soon as it applies you need to hit it with some warm air as it tends losen the covering.I used it on very thin covering.so heavy covering mabey hardly affected.

www.warbirdcolors.com sells a satin clear. I haven't used it. They tell me it's milky in the can, dries clear. Cross-linked for complete fuelproofness.

It may very well be milky in the can as the flattener is what it milky. We sell a clear coat and we can add a flattener to it. When we are trying to dial in an FS color AND it's flat, we always go a little darker because of the "milky" white in the flattener. If you are competing with this aircraft, you might keep this in mind. If you aren't competing with it, then its not that big of a deal. Also if you go very very flat, any oil on your hands handling the aircraft becomes a shiny spot.
Try Jerry Nelson's flat and keep in mind it may give a little lighter finish.
