I have a new Mayhem 40 that in order to get the right balance (5" from leading edge) I have to bury the battery in the tail. In order to do that, I must use a 12" futaba extener. Is that okay? I am using floss to secure the connections but I didn't know if this is a process frowned upon by the community. TIA!

It will be ok just as long as the wire in the extension is heavy enough to handle the load placed on it. If you have digital servos, or the servos pull a lot of current, you might want to consider heavier wire. If you're comfortable with soldering you might want to consider soldering an extention into your battery wire. That's how I do all of mine. But only if you are sure you can make a solid good solder joint.
Hope this helps

Putting extensions in the loop is not a good idea, even if you have them safety wired to prevent seperation. Reason, the connectors do have a rather high impedance releative to the wire itself. You will be much safer to solder in an extension with large gage wire, especially if using servos that draw much current or will see heavy loads.
