How to make a 3D American Flag on your planes

if you get a wrinkle I would maybe take the iron to it after the windex has set overnight, windex and heat are not a good combo....but I think you'rll find the wrinkles are down to a minimum useing windex and very little heat....good luck and hunt me down if you got any questions...
Thanks Paully.........Gator

WOW
Gator!
That is one of the coolest things I've seen with monokote! Very good job with the instructions and pictures. I wish I had that type of artistic eye. I love the gray as "folds or wrinkles".... something I never would have thought of.
One question (other than, "can you re-cover all my planes?") So, you did not use a heat gun or iron on the main surfaces of the monokote pieces? Just the edges? And, how does it stick then?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike....The soap in the Windex makes it where you can smooth out the covering and not get any blisters. I assume it also acts as an adhesive....I dunno....it just works,,,the trim solvent around the edges at times will disolve so colors of monokote, not really bad but that is what I like to see when the solvent kinda melts the covering....G

Another Flag Ship
Here is my first flag attempt. It took about 12 hours for the complete covering of the Saphir. It was done pretty much like Gator did his. The only difference is I cheated and used Corel Draw and my vinyl cutter to create the stars on the blue. Everything eles is hand cut.

How to make a 3D American Flag on your planes
I think the key for alot of 3D looks is to use transparent covering. The water drops on the GATORADE P.T. were made out of monokote trans green ontop of neon green. I also took tiny slivers of white monokote and iron them ontop of the transparent green to make it look like light was reflecting off them,,,that was alot of work/time...but it was worth it to me...The torn look....if I use a checkerboard , I shade the black sqaures with grey covering, just like the wrinkles in the flag. If the checkerboard is all symetrical sq,s I just cut a small strip of grey and try to tuck it underneath the black that i put down with windex....if the sq are suppose to look like its moveing, I pretty much do the same thing, but its a little more difficult, cause none of the sqs are the same size....hope this helps,,,god luck with your project...oh yeah...Bily hell came up with a nice 3D torn look that i would like to do on my sledge when i get it built, but he's gotta show you that one.......Gator

Awesome covering job...a shame to see it wasted on such an ugly R/C aircraft, never will understand the lure of a profile plane.
NICE JOB, THOUGH.

For me... it's more about performance than looks... In my opinion, profiles are just more aerobatic... Besides.. I think they look pretty cool now.... They sorta grow on you...
