Grain Direction for rib strips
Hi,
Im buiding a 65% kaos out of the plans and the wing has these strips on top and bottom of the ribs. Similar to this picture i found on the net.

From spar to leading edge the wing is sheeted and from spar to the trailing edge these strips are used.
What should be the grain direction of these strips?? I imagine that it would be parallel to the wing span (same as the sheeting) but i just want to make sure.
Also what are the advantages of having these strips? I am guessing that the covering will stick to these strips better than to bare sharp edged ribs. Is there any other advantage?

Cap strips should have the grain run chord wise, not span wise. They add strength, and do give a better surface for finishing than the ribs on end do.

What you are refering to as rib strips are usually referred to as capstrips. The grain direction would be in the same direction as the rib. The capstrip us usually 3/8" to 1/2" wide and the same thickness as the leading edge / trailing edge sheeting. Use a balsa stripper or a straight edge to cut strips off a of sheet or scraps of the proper thickness. Capstrips provide tremendous strength to ribs in addition to adding attachment area for the covering. A 65% Kaos should be an awsume flyer. Please keep us posted on the results.

65% Kaos?? Glow version is 55"... I assume your building the electric version at 38". I'm just curious.. where does the 65% come in... doh! just realized.. ... 65% of the original. I'm used to it going the other way, larger.
