I'm looking for different methods for storing airplanes in the basement. Most storage systems that I've seen store the planes and wings horizontally. I've been thinking about storing them vertically either nose down or nose up as horizontal wall space is at a minimum.

Any techniques that you have found that works well?

i am using accessory hooks for brooms and such from my local hardware store they are foam covered and have 2 hooks to hold planes from either the stab or landing gear they also screw into either concrete or wood sorry i dont have a camera to show you my wall hangers but hope this drawing helps

Time for a recon visit to my local Home Depot

If your basement is open rafter, just use screw in eyelets and bungee cords to support the planes. That way, you don't have to use any wall space; and the space you do use is largely open and unused now. And, the planes are up, out of the way and safe. Thanks; Ernie P.

I like the bungee cord idea. That would allow hanging either fuses or wings out of the way. Also, each could use its own set of cords allowing each component to be removed / replaced without affecting the others.

Right now, I have at least 20 planes of various sizes hanging from my basement ceiling. They're up and out of the way, utilizing otherwise unuseable space, and the planes and wings are SAFE! Most boxed kits and ARF's will fit up between the rafters, completely out of harm's way; and assembled planes can be hung below the boxes. Small electrics hang on one rafter (eyelets on opposite side of the same rafter); larger planes snug between two rafters, with the eyelets arranged as necessary. The eyelets can be placed on the bottom of the rafter to allow more clearance, if necessary, for the rudder and rear stabilizer; on the sides for less clearance. And the whole process is CHEAP! Use the adjustable bungee cords (the flat black ones with adjustment holes for the hooks) if needed to allow proper spacing. It works well; and it's very adjustable for different planes.
