Airbrush question, Need help finding one.. Now help w compressors
Ive done some searching here as well as on RCG for different airbrushes. I have a cheap single action I have used on plastic scale models but am to the point now with my RC aircraft that I need a decent, double action airbrush for some weathering, etc on some of my scale RC warbirds. So i guess what I am looking is some help picking out an inexpensive(<100 or so) dual action brush and where to find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Paasche and Iwata both make excellent airbrushes. The Paasche VL can usually be found in the $70 neighborhood from places like Dick Blick Art Supplies. Iwata will typically run a bit higher.

Here's another endorsement for the Paasche VL. Very user friendly. Get one, you will love it!

You can check out these guys. They carry everything you could hope for. Not sure how they compare with prices, but looking costs nothing. I bought my Badger 360 on eBay, quite some time ago. Can't remember what I paid, but it was a good deal. I'm no expert by any means, but it works for me. Nice thing is, it can be used as either a bottom siphon or gravity feed.<br type="_moz"/> |

Kind of a slow day, so I checked out the link for Dick Blick. The Badger airbrush that I have,( 360 ) is listed there for $165.00. I paid less than that for a new one on eBay, but I'm sure it was more than the $70.00 or so for the Paasche.

I have posted this on multiple threads...Having owned several Paasche vl's...buy a VEGA 2000...
I am not sure anyone ever listens but its 5 times the machine, for the same or less money..... believe me.. http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/ve20deaiset.html so much better trigger action, has o-rings at some typical air leak spots old vl's didn't, the fine tip needle is much sturdier than a vl's..its almost impossible to clean the fine vl needle without bending the tip PERMANENTLY... I like mine so much I bought a spare in case they quit making them or I wore the first one out..it hasn't worn out... Anyhow I hope someone out there benefits from this..there may be a better brush for the money these days..but you won't get hurt on this one. |

I'm sure I have a few around, If you like, I can dig them out. One is an NIB Iwata. Really nice!
Let me know. Charles |

I have both the single and double action Pasche, and keep going back to single action for 99.9% of my work. The double action is just too much of an overkill for most stuff, and a lot more work to clean up afterward.

Thanks again for all the great info, what about compressors? I've looked at some of the airbrush specific compressors, but I'm kinda leaning towards a larger, multipurpose one. Not industrial, commercial grade, just maybe on I could use around the house for lift nailing, painting, etc. What are everyones thought on those. Or canned air. That has to be my next decision. Thanks again in advance.

I also looked at the airbrush compressors. Man, are they pricey. I bought a small portable compressor,( on sale ), with an air tank, from a medium box company here in Canada. A much better choice in my opinion. I don't know if you could inflate a car tire, or run an air impact with an airbrush compressor. I got mine cheap enough, that if it lasts a couple of years, I could replace it, and still be ahead.

thats the route to go, garage sized aircompressor... I used to have a setup so I could plug a hose on an air fitting at one basement window..and have air from the garage to the small paint shop downstairs.. When finished. roll up the air hose and its out of the way ...Only problem was in winter of course...

I have a half dozen Pasche single and dual action airbrush's. I use them a lot. I have a different color in each brush so I do not need to change paint containers. Makes it faster to paint.
On a whim I picked up a low cost, ultra budget airbrush from Harborfreight. To say I was surprised is an under statement. This this works great. [link=http://www.harborfreight.com/deluxe-airbrush-kit-95810.html]Budget airbrush[/link] After I figure out how it works, I am a happy camper. They also have a complete set. [link=http://www.harborfreight.com/1-5-hp-58-psi-compressor-and-airbrush-kit-95630.html]Set[/link] They have a small compressor. [link=http://www.harborfreight.com/1-3-hp-3-gallon-100-psi-oilless-air-compressor-97080.html]Small compressor[/link] I have used a small oil less unit for my pin nailer for over 3 years and it works pretty well. A lot bigger then the little one in the link yet a lot smaller then my 60 gallon monster in my garage. I have a 60 gallon 5hp compressor so I can not really say much about the little ones. I do know, it really helps to even out the air flow if you have a nice tank to go with it. If you get a small airbrush compressor, a tank like [link=http://www.harborfreight.com/5-gallon-portable-air-tank-65594.html]this one[/link] makes for smoother air flow when the compressor cycles. "I have used a small oil less unit for my pin nailer for over 3 years and it works pretty well"
My advice to anyone considering an oilless compressor, is listen to it in action. I had one once I gave away because I could not stand the noise it made, even when I put it into a wooden box for sound quieting. Went back to conventional. Les |

Les, I do agree, I had heard them from MILES away. This one is not bad. I have yet to find a quiet compressor. I had a small airbrush compressor that was about as quiet as a thunder storm. I do not think I would sleep in the same room, but using it in another room or the garage is not too bad.
